The Walk Into A Bar Meme!

The bar's a comfortable place, where everyone knows you just have to walk up, give the bartender a smile, and order up a drink. Everyone goes to a bar sometime, whether to pick up a companion for the night, to pick up a friend, or pick up a drink. You never know the story behind the guy sitting next to you, or the bartender. But that's what bars are for, aren't they? To learn about the guy on the stool next to you, drinking his gin and tonic.

So what do you do in a Walk Into A Bar meme?

1. Comment here with your character and their canon in the subject line.

He nodded, as if Duo had just confirmed his suspicions about it. "Weirdest of all when we're together," he agreed. He paused a beat, glanced at Duo. "I thought Quatre was normal," but now he was trying to rethink that as well as he could. "I usually just glare at them," he mumbled, letting his thumb slide over the back of Duo's hand affectionately.

"You're right, he is normal. That's what makes him weird. Normal in a sea of crazy, fighting in a war when he has a family out there that loves him and a damn army at his beck and call! Guy's nuts for wantin to leave all that to come hang out with a bunch of..." cold blooded killers and terrorists. Duo shook his head and cast a quick, sideways glance at his hand. There really was something strangely comforting about what Wufei was doing. It was why he hadn't bothered to take his hand back. He liked where it was.

He giggled warmly, "a bunch of crazy, reckless terrorists who don't expect to see the other end of this war?" he supplied, with far more cheer than the statement probably deserved. He let out a long sigh, fingers brushing absently against Duo's. "I'm not sure if I want to or not. I don't want to go home."

"That's the one." Duo chirped right back with a laugh of his own. It wasn't really funny, but what else were you supposed to do? If you didn't laugh you'd cry.

"Then make a home." He suggested, his smile softening some. "I don't have a home to go back to. I just figured I'd throw a dart at a map and wherever it hits is where I'll live. If I survive."

Make a home. It was such a simple concept, but it had him giving Duo that warm, gooey smile again. "That sounds nice," he decided, letting out a long sigh. "Gonna have to go a bunch of places first to decide where. But without all the explosions and the shooting people. Go places like normal people do. Not Quatre normal. Normal-normal." It was an important distinction, because neither of them had a 40-man entourage. Or the same level of wealth. Wufei was from a rich family, but the Winners were right up there with the Bartons and Catalonias in terms of wealth.

"Travel? Now that's something I never thought about... Actually goin around and seeing the sights?" He'd been most everywhere now. Both sides of the globe. All over space. But he'd never actually had a chance to look around and take in what the world had to offer. They were doing everything they could to save a world they hadn't even properly seen.

There was a moment of hesitation before Duo spoke up again. "... Don't suppose you'd want company?"

He nodded in agreement to the first question, and practically beamed at the second. "I'll need someone to watch my back," he agreed warmly, even though he was perfectly capable of keeping himself safe. It would be nice to be a little more relaxed, to have someone he could trust watching his six. "Besides, people warm up to you right away, you'll be able to find all the best places," where he'd be left visiting the tourist traps and trying to decide from that.

"Then it's a plan." Duo replied warmly. "Just remember, you gotta stay alive until the end. You've somethin to look forward to now." And isn't that what they all needed. A light at the end of the tunnel. A reason to fight that was more personal than just vengeance. Vengeance aged them, robbed them of any chance at happiness. Duo hoped he could shrug that off by the time the war was over and try his hand at a normal life. And if normal included globetrotting with Wufei, then that was just awesome. They could take a gap year to sort their shit out. That's something people did, Duo was sure of that.

He nodded eagerly, and because he was drunk he didn't bother to hesitate or push down the urge. Instead, he gave into his whim, pulling Duo's hand up so he could press a kiss to the back of Duo's hand. "Sealed with a kiss," he decided lightly.

He had to laugh. It was unexpected and it was sweet, Wufei was unbearably cute like this. But Duo wasn't drunk. He was in complete control of his faculties. So he knew what he was doing when he freed his hand in favour of hooking his arm around Wufei's shoulders. He tugged him close to his side and, since there was no one on the road just at that moment, he risked looking away just long enough to press a kiss to Wufei's cheek. Then he grinned.

"It's a promise."

He flushed as Duo pulled him close, but he leaned into the embrace and grinned as he was kissed. Even drunk, he had the good sense not to go in for a full-on kiss on the lips, though he was sorely tempted. Instead, he rested his head on Duo's shoulder with a warm smile. "You're good at keeping promises," and he was going to hold Duo to it.

If he could remember it.

It was a good thing Wufei hadn't gone for a full kiss. They might have ended up crashing before they reached the safe house. And that would have sucked. Ruined a perfectly good end to a perfectly awful night. But he did kind of like this new position though. Wufei felt warm against his side and his head on his shoulder didn't feel nearly as awkward as he would have assumed.

"Yeah, I try to be." Or die trying. He hated breaking a promise unless he had a damn good reason. He'd have to be in a coma or locked up and being tortured to break a promise. Especially one as heartfelt as the one he was making now.

And no worries, Wufei. Duo will be sure to remind you.

He giggled warmly, nuzzling his face into Duo's shoulder a little. For as awful as the night had started, it had taken a positively delightful turn. "You're warm," he murmured, as if he hadn't expected it, or maybe he wasn't talking about temperature, it was hard to tell with how drunk and sleepy he was. And there were his eyelids, drooping steadily lower.

"What can I say? I'm hot stuff." He teased, unable to help himself. It was the perfect set up.

It was about then that Duo realised Wufei was leaning against him a little heavier than before. A glance to the side told him what he's suspected. "Hey, try and stay with me. We're almost there. Just a few more minutes." The area was a little more run down now, fewer street lamps. But it was also quieter. Perfect for a place to hide a couple Gundam Pilots.

Wufei giggled a little at Duo's comment, only to groan in protest when he was told to stay awake. He sighed heavily, reaching up to rub at his eyes. "Okay," he replied, forcing his eyes open. He'd always been good at following orders, even as a child. He was quiet, snuggled up to Duo like this, but he managed to keep his eyes open as he waited for them to arrive. Showering was going to be something of a challenge.

Just as he'd promised, a few minutes later had him pulling up to a non-descript little house in the middle of a street. He'd turned the headlights off a little ways back, as well as the engine and had coasted the rest of the way before bringing the car to a stop.

"We're here. You good, Wu?" Duo leaned away a little so he could look down at the other pilot. "Think you can make it inside?" If he needed to he'd carry him, but if he could walk that'd be better. And probably less embarrassing for Wufei.

He pulled away to stretch as the car finally rolled to a stop, letting out a long sigh. "I think so," he replied, unbuckling himself and pushing open the door. He staggered getting out, but once he had his feet under him, he managed to walk without much issue. It wasn't a straight line, but it got him to the door.

And inside, there was Heero, parked on the couch standing watch. He was silent, as they came in, the glow of his laptop screen illuminating his face from below.

Wufei waved at him absently, and staggered in the direction of the bathroom, hopefully to shower.

Duo was quick to lock up the car and just as quick to get to Wufei's side. He had the door open for him and followed him inside. A strange sense of disappointment hit him when he realised they weren't actually alone, then annoyance that Heero had stayed when he'd told him to go.

Wufei waved. Duo glared, but the look melted away as he watched Wufei head up to the bathroom. This time he didn't follow, but he did prop himself up by the bottom of the stairs leaning against the wall with his arms crossed. From here he was sure he'd be able to hear Wufei if his drunken ass fell in the shower.

It wasn't long before the sound of the shower started, and Heero finally spoke. "03 and 04 evacuated an hour ago. Is he compromised?" His voice didn't give away anything as his fingers clacked away on the keyboard once more.

"I told you to go." Duo replied mildly, tone not reflecting just how pissed off he was by the fact that Heero really hadn't trusted him enough to deal with this on his own.

"He's drunk. He's dealing. He'll be fine after he sleeps." He summed up Wufei's condition in as few words as he could, his eyes remained focused on the top of the stairs, listening out for any signs that Wufei might need help. But also as an excuse not to look at Heero otherwise he'd just yell at him. Or take off his shoe so he had something to throw at him.

"He has a history of overreacting," Heero said, glancing up at Duo. "There was a chance he would become violent," and while he knew damn well Duo could handle himself, he also knew Wufei could probably kick Duo's ass if properly motivated.

He looked up the stairs for a moment, but apparently he had all the information he wanted, because he turned his gaze back to his laptop. A few minutes later, he shut the laptop down, went about stowing it in a bag, then hefted that onto his shoulder. "Next mission was pushed out a week." He hesitated, glanced at the stairs again. "Take care of him." And then turned on his heel, heading for the door.

Wufei was only a risk to himself. And while a fight Wufei might win... Duo wasn't a push over. He'd hold his own long enough to get through to the other. Or he'd just end up dead and haunt them all. But he'd known it wouldn't have come to that.

Duo gave a low little laugh. "So, what? You were worried about me?" Now he looked away from the stairs to cast Heero an amused sort of look. "I'll make sure he doesn't self-destruct."

Heero hesitated again, meeting Duo's gaze for a long moment as he frowned. "The social dynamic is unpredictable." Yes, he'd been worried. He nodded when Duo promised to look after Wufei, and turned to leave.

Upstairs, the water stopped, there were a few quiet curses in Mandarin, and the water started back up again.

Duo's smile faded a little. Okay, that was weird... But he didn't stop Heero from leaving. What was the point in trying to get a straight answer from him? Duo just shrugged and, when he heard Wufei, he turned and head up to see what was going on.

"Everythin okay in there?" He called and lightly knocked on the door.

Heero rearmed the security system on his way out the door, and then they were alone again.

"Yes," Wufei growled, as the water turned off again. A few more minutes and he emerged, hair hanging around his face like silk, a flush on his cheeks, down his neck and over his chest. The towel was tucked around his hips, a little frown on his lips. "My hair was slimy."
