The Walk Into A Bar Meme!

The bar's a comfortable place, where everyone knows you just have to walk up, give the bartender a smile, and order up a drink. Everyone goes to a bar sometime, whether to pick up a companion for the night, to pick up a friend, or pick up a drink. You never know the story behind the guy sitting next to you, or the bartender. But that's what bars are for, aren't they? To learn about the guy on the stool next to you, drinking his gin and tonic.

So what do you do in a Walk Into A Bar meme?

Oh, didn't that smile just start the butterflies up in his stomach? He felt his cheeks going warm with blush, and he returned the smile. "I'd count myself pretty damn lucky, considering," he agreed, sighing softly as he drained the rest of his coffee. "I think by then I'll be able to eat normally," so he'd do what he usually did and just eat whatever was left from what someone else had made. He wasn't very good at cooking most of the things that tended to be stocked in safe houses, especially outside Asia.

He eased out of his seat, taking bowl and mug over to the sink to give them both a rinse. "I think I will take your advice and lie down again." Even if he couldn't sleep, he might be able to meditate the hangover away.

"Just lemme know when you're ready." Duo was about to tell Wufei to just leave the dishes, but knew he probably would go ignored so he left it. Some battles just weren't worth fighting.

"Good. I might leave in a few. Track down a store and get some more supplies. I'll be back before you wake though." If they were going to be there a week, or a few days at least, depending on just how long Wufei could stand being around him, they'd need supplies. "Rest well, Wu."

"Okay," he replied with a little nod, leaving the actual washing for later, and pausing next to Duo, letting his gaze linger. "Thank you," again. He was turning into a broken record, but he didn't know how else to articulate what he was feeling. It was so... warm.

"You're more than welcome." Duo looked up and gave him a bright smile. Broken record or not, a little acknowledgment went a long way for someone like Duo. Not that he really did things just for that reason, but to know that Wufei happy with him enough to say that was a good feeling.

He smiled, nodded, and finally took himself and what was left of his head back upstairs to try to rest a little more. He knew the safe house was secure enough for him to sleep deeply, even with Duo going out to run errands. Duo never would've suggested going out while Wufei was asleep if it wasn't.

He didn't expect to get any more sleep, but just a few minutes after he laid down, he was out again, and when he roused a few hours later, he actually felt human again. He got up, brushed his teeth, and descended the stairs to check the security system, taking a look at what was actually in place and decide if he was going to rearrange furniture to do his forms, or if he could get away with doing them in the yard.

True to his word, not long after Wufei was asleep, Duo took stock of what they had in the safe house and what they'd need, grabbed the car keys and headed out. He hit three different stores but was back before an hour had even passed. Duo was efficient when he wanted to be and, really, he didn't want to leave Wufei alone for too long. Even if the house was as safe as could be, Duo didn't feel right leaving the other pilot when he was in a vulnerable state.

After he returned and unpacked all the food, he started prep for a simple stew. Something that he could slow cook for a while or reheat if Wufei ended up sleeping the day away. Something tasty, filling but easy enough on the stomach. Duo had given it a great deal of thought, not that he'd admit to it. And he actually kind of liked cooking. Again, not that he'd admit to it. If he did the guys would make him cook a lot more than he actually did. But it was often assumed that he couldn't cook. A kid living on the streets, obviously he wouldn't have a clue.

He was sat at the kitchen table sipping a cooling cup of tea when he heard movement. Duo didn't get up though, he just waited to see if Wufei was just going to the bathroom or not. When he heard the other actually coming down, Duo smile and finished off his tea before he ventured out into the living room.

"How're you feeling? Better?"

Wufei had taken another shower, and came down looking a great deal better. "Significantly," he agreed, padding into the living room and having a look around. "Do you mind if I move things?" He'd decided that going outside to practice was a little too risky, especially with whatever he'd done the night before possibly drawing some attention to the fact that a young, Asian teen was around and getting into some form of trouble.

"Good." He leaned against the door jam, arms crossed over his chest and a smile on his lips. Wufei was looking better now. More awake. The little signs of pain had eased away some. The rest really had done him good and Duo was happy for that.

"Sure, move whatever you like." It didn't bother him, he'd go back into the kitchen and give Wufei the space he needed to do whatever he wanted.

He was still feeling a little stiff, if he was being honest, but when Duo gave his blessing, Wufei started shoving furniture off to the edges of the room, creating a decent sized open space in the center. Once it was empty he stepped to the middle and started stretching himself out, taking deep breaths, letting them out in quiet sighs as he eased the stiffness out of his joints. He didn't put any thought at all into how he looked as he did it, focused on easing the discomfort and getting his body back into fighting shape.

He knew Duo was still there, though, and found the presence comfortable as he eased himself out of stretching and into his forms. He started with the ones that required the least control -- quick, fluid movements that blended into each other. They looked impressive, but they were easy. It was the slower, more controlled movements he would do later that were the real challenge. "You're welcome to join," he offered lightly, as he paused between forms, balanced on the toes of one foot, the other pointed at the ceiling, body stretched down towards the floor. His hair was loose, hanging around his face in a way he didn't normally allow, but he was so attuned to the movements he didn't need to worry about obstructed vision. Unless there was a caltrop of some kind that he'd failed to sweep out of the way while moving furniture.

Duo probably should have moved and given Wufei some privacy... Normally he would have. He'd only ever caught Wufei doing this a handful of times and had always felt bad, like he was spying, and had left before Wufei could notice and get angry.

But he'd not been dismissed. Wufei didn't seem to mind. So he remained standing there in quiet fascination and awe, just watching the way Wufei moved. It was like liquid. Effortless. It was fucking beautiful is what it was and when Wufei called over to him, Duo had to laugh.

"Me? Do that? Thanks but I'm not into public humiliation." He replied lightly. No, he was more into watching, clearly.

He laughed softly, wobbling enough that a hand had to reach out and steady himself against the floor. "But these are the easy ones," he teased. "And you're more than athletic enough, I've seen you darting through debris fields, it's no different from that."

He shifted weight onto the hand, moving into what looked like an effortless handstand, if you ignored the tremors in his arm from holding the pose. "Now this is difficult," he said, folding his body in half, bending his arm, and striking what looked like a truly impossible pose, like something off one of the posters for the Chinese circuses that sometimes competed with Trowa's. He tumbled out of the pose a few seconds later, grinning as he got back to his feet.

"Athletic? Sure. No where near that flexible though!" Okay, maybe he could be if his life depended on it. But for funsies? No way! What Wufei made look effortless looked like more work that Duo was inclined to give! What happened to just sitting down and doing a bit of humming? Wasn't that supposed to be relaxing?

In appreciation of Wufei's efforts, Duo grinned and clapped.

"I'm impressed. Seriously. You make that look so simple." And who would have thought Wufei was a big show off? Learned something new every day! But in the end, even as he laughed and shrugged out of his jacket and shoes, Duo made his way across. "Alright... Show me the easier stuff then."

He just needed the right person to show off for, apparently, or just to be comfortable enough. He hadn't thought Duo would actually agree to try it out, but his smile warmed when Duo came over.

"Just remember, it should feel like stretching, and if you start to fall go with the movement instead of trying to regain your balance. You'll hurt less from hitting the ground than pulling a muscle," Wufei warned, and reached out to help guide Duo into a starting stance; Legs a shoulder's width apart, arms relaxed at his sides, knees slightly bent, and mirrored the pose in front of him. "You are water, flowing down the creek bed," he said, and guided Duo through a simple movement, stretching upwards, onto the balls of his feet, and then teetering forward only to catch themselves with a step forward, stretching in that direction in a movement that was a little bit like swimming.

If he fell he'd go with the movement and fall flat on his face. Because this was a lot weirder than he'd been expecting it to be. But he tried to follow Wufei's lead. He really did. He wavered a bit on a few occasions, almost losing his balance and tried really hard not to laugh at all the Bruce Lee shit. This was serious, at least he thought it was supposed to. And Wufei was taking the time to teach him. So Duo did his very best to be a good student.

Even if he felt silly doing it!

As silly as it was, it was also kind of nice. Not relaxing, not in the least. But doing this with Wufei felt good. Eventually he found himself smiling.

Wufei would catch him, and probably fall right with him if he did that, but that was part of the charm of it. He couldn't help huffing out a chuckle now and then at the faces Duo was pulling as he concentrated, and his smile bordered on a grin when Duo finally found his stride with it. "It feels much less silly when there's a big group of people doing it, and a man with a reed threatening to swat your shins if you don't keep up," he admitted warmly, guiding Duo into the next pose almost effortlessly. Or at least it might've looked that way if Duo wasn't close enough to see the sweat beading up on his shoulders, at the nape of his neck, over his lip.

"Wouldn't do this if it was a big group and a cranky bastard with a stick hittin me." Duo replied with a laugh. No way would he let someone hit him with anything while doing something like this. Good thing, too. Duo was likely to hit back!

Luckily Duo was close enough. He'd noticed the wobble from earlier as well but hadn't thought much of, but now he was starting to wonder...

Wufei'd had a rough night, there was no way he was fighting fit, yet he was still doing this. Duo wanted to say something. But instead of saying anything he gave a little gasp. Deliberately widened his eyes in surprise and made a show of losing his balance and ending up down on his ass in a heap. Once there he laughed again at his own bad luck.

"Think that's a good place to call it for me, Wuffers!" He snapped his fingers then and quickly scrambled to his feet. "The stew! I forgot. Should be okay but... Hey you hungry?"

He laughed when Duo said he wouldn't have done it in a group. "Yes, you would've been the troublesome student hanging from the rafters like a monkey," he teased lightly. When Duo 'fell' back, Wufei reached to catch, but only ended up tumbling down next to him, laughing as he rolled back up to his feet almost as quickly as Duo did.

"Famished," Wufei agreed, wiping a hand over his neck to clear away the sweat with a smile. "Did I do anything particularly exerting yesterday night? I'm a bit more tired than just a hangover ought to cause." Not that he'd had one before to measure against, exactly, but he wasn't used to his body telling him to pump the breaks.

Crisis averted! Saved face and Wufei's pride by not bringing attention to the signs that the guy needed to rest. They were Gundam Pilots. They were kind of dumb when it came to pushing themselves to, and then passed, their limits. Duo knew that well enough.

What he didn't expect was for Wufei to actually bring it up.

"Nothin I can think of?" Duo really gave it some thought too. "Drinking. We drove for a while. Stopped for pancakes. Got here. You got a shower and then went to bed. That about rounds it up." He waved to the kitchen table before heading to the stove to check on the stew. It was fine, of course, but a quick stir was all it needed. With a pleased grin, Duo fetched two bowls.

It was an anomaly, something he needed to examine and figure out so it wouldn't interfere in the future. If it really was from just drinking too much, that would be easy enough to solve by just not repeating the mistake.

"The mission itself was fairly taxing, but nothing that should've caused this level of fatigue," which wasn't much, but enough that it could've made a mission more difficult than it needed to be. Enough to shave seconds off his reaction time. "Hopefully it's just from the hangover, then."

Duo looked over his shoulder, brows kitted in concern. He really wasn't liking the sound of that.

"... Maybe we need to take you in? Get you checked over." He spoke and spooned stew into the two bowls then carried them over to the table. One he set before Wufei and the other himself. Spoons were already on the table.

"You didn't get hurt on the mission did you? Notice any weird bruises when you woke up this morning?"

He shook his head quickly as he lowered into a seat at the table. "I'm sure it's nothing to worry about. This is my first experience with a hangover," and he didn't want to think about it being anything more complex or dangerous than that. Gundam Pilots didn't have time to be sick. "I've not seen or felt anything more than moderate bruising," which was to be expected with how he'd managed to pull himself out of the mission gone wrong.

Duo didn't believe that it was nothing to worry about but he didn't push it, just decided to keep a closer eye on Wufei. The last thing he needed was for some kind of internal injury to go intreated because of stubbornness. Duo just nodded and reached for his spoon and flashed a lopsided little smile.

"Eat up. Might help you feel better with somethin solid in your stomach." And then more rest. No more flailing about, just in case.

It was true enough that Wufei was stubborn, but he was also a fairly practical guy most of the time. He's not the one with a history of setting his own broken bones and limping the injury off, at least. It's just that the sensibility had never extended itself to illnesses. He'd been remarkably healthy as a child, and it had been years since he'd gotten so much as a cold.

But he'd also spent all that time on one colony or another. Down here, where the germs were native, it was a lot harder to stay healthy. And because A0206 had been declared destroyed, external shipments of little things like vaccines had stopped.

"Alright," he agreed, pulling hid bowl a little closer and having at it. Half of it, anyway. He lingered at the table, drawing out his bites, gazing down into the food. It was good, but he felt like he was fighting himself, every time he took a bite. It was downright peculiar.

Yeah, he was worried alright. It wasn't even a heaping bowl full but Wufei couldn't even finish it. Duo had a bowl of his own so he knew it didn't taste awful. Unless Wufei's pallet was so refined that the simple stew just didn't do it for him?

Again though, Duo wouldn't push. He finished his own meal and set the spoon atop the bowl before propping his elbow on the table and dropping his chin onto his hand.

"What're your plans now? I'd set you should rest some more but I don't have a gun to your head. You feelin any better?"

Honestly, Wufei was a little concerned by it, too. He hummed as he dragged his spoon through the stew. "I'm feeling... peculiar," he admitted. "And we've a week before we need to be anywhere, so I suppose a bit more rest is in order," he agreed, and licked his spoon clean, not at all aware of how similar it was to when he licked the spoon at the diner, and got up to put it in the sink, before putting some wrap over his bowl of stew and getting it into the fridge.

On the one hand, he'd noticed Duo was more on edge about wastefulness than the rest of them, and on the other he was colony-born and as used to conserving resources as the rest of them. So the snotty little rich kid from L5 was not at all above having leftovers. "I hope you won't take my appetite as an insult, it was delightful," but his stomach just wasn't cooperating.
