The Walk Into A Bar Meme!

The bar's a comfortable place, where everyone knows you just have to walk up, give the bartender a smile, and order up a drink. Everyone goes to a bar sometime, whether to pick up a companion for the night, to pick up a friend, or pick up a drink. You never know the story behind the guy sitting next to you, or the bartender. But that's what bars are for, aren't they? To learn about the guy on the stool next to you, drinking his gin and tonic.

So what do you do in a Walk Into A Bar meme?

1. Comment here with your character and their canon in the subject line.

"Never," Quatre agreed with a grin. "I'd always felt some quiet undercurrents with him, but I didn't think I'd ever get to see them. And I'll take any excuse to stay a little longer that you can give me."

In the living room, Wufei was all bundled up with his panda, legs tucked up on the sofa. He even started the TV up, stuck it on a random channel, and settled in for a while, squeezing the panda every time he resisted the urge to scratch his rashes. He was too tired and too sick to even ask for what he needed at the moment, just slowly sinking lower in the sofa until his head was pillowed on the arm of it.

Duo grinned and grabbed another mug to make another cup of tea. "Then stay a while.

Once the tea was made he pushed the cup over for Quatre and grabbed the one for Wufei. In his other hand he took one of the bottles of lotion and brought them both through to the living room where Wufei was curled up.

"Hey there. I've some tea, think you can drink it?" He asked gently as he sat himself down beside Wufei. "I've some lotion here too. Should help with that itching. Do you... uh... do you want me to help you put it on? Or do you wanna try it yourself?" Duo knew how important choice was here, as well as those helpless feelings you got when you were sick. He didn't want to take Wufei's independence from him but would help if he was needed to. Gladly, in fact. "... I can at least get your back for you?"

Quatre took his mug and followed Duo out, perching himself in a chair and just... quietly observing.

"Cream first," Wufei replied, giving the panda a squeeze before setting it aside and pulling down the blanket, tugging off his shirt. "And if we both put it on, it'll be faster. Otherwise I might decide flaying myself is easier," and if he was pouting a little, what of it? He held his hand out for some of the lotion.

Quatre had to bite down on his cheek to hold in a laugh.

"Cream first then!" Duo answered cheerfully and leaned over to put the tea down on the table. Only when he sat back did he find that Wufei had gone ahead and removed his shirt and had his hand held out to him. Laughing, he popped the cap on the cream and pressed out a generous amount onto Wufei's hand.

"How's this? You get your front, I'll do the back. And your face." Because how could Wufei see his face? It'd be easier for Duo to do that part he thought. But the back was simple enough and after a little nudge to get Wufei shifting to the side enough so he could reach it, Duo began gently applying the cream to the rashes he could see.

Wufei nodded in agreement, turning his back to Duo and starting to spread it over his arms and chest. "Okay," he agreed softly, frowning down at his body. "And no jokes," he added, casting a sidelong glance at Quatre.

"None at all," Quatre promised with a smile. "I'm just here for moral support. And to let you know I'm sourcing vaccines for you, anything you might've missed along with the chicken pox one." And then he kept Wufei distracted from all the itching, talking about how many vaccines, and which ones he could remember getting.

When his back and torso were done, Wufei got up and shed his pants, so they could get his legs. Normally he would've had more modesty, but with all the itching they were just lucky he kept his underwear on at all.

Duo was quiet for a change, just happy to let Quatre do the talking while he focused on getting all of those itchy spots for Wufei. He did more than just the back, moving to shoulders and the backs of his arms, anywhere Wufei would have trouble to get to.

Then the pants game off and Duo just flashed a grin. No jokes. Them slipped off the edge of the sofa to kneel beside it and began applying creme to the rashes there. It seemed there weren't as many on his legs than his torso but there were more than enough yo be irritating.

"Hopefully this helps..."

"It's already helping," Wufei agreed with a sigh, getting as many of the little bumps as he could, and leaving the rest to Duo.

"I'm glad," Quatre replied warmly. "I brought a bunch of it, so you don't have to worry about rationing it, and I can always get more if you start running low. I'm just relieved it's not something worse."

"I thought it was plague," Wufei agreed, pulling his shirt back on as Duo finished with the last of the blisters on his legs, and he pulled the pajama pants back up, too. Then it was back into the blankets, and hugging the panda again. "And thank you. Even though it's childish."

"It's not childish to take comfort from things," Quatre replied simply, sipping at his tea again.

Once Wufei was as covered as he could be, Duo tucked in the blankets and...hesitated.

"Anything else you need?" he asked then, his smile gentle. If the plushie and the blanket cocoon was all Wufei needed then that was great. He'd at least put one of those other movies on for Wufei to fall asleep to.

Wufei frowned, trying to decide if there was more that he needed, before shaking his head and sinking into the sofa again, as if he'd been given permission to relax.

"A little bit of tea, at least. You need to stay hydrated," Quatre urged, and held Wufei's mug out to him. It was still nice and warm, at least.

"Ah, but not... pharmacy tea?" Wufei asked hesitantly, even as he accepted the mug and gave it a sniff. "I dislike pharmacy tea," he grumbled.

"If you don't like this stuff we'll get you more." Duo promised. He had no idea what 'pharmacy tea' was but if it was something Wufei didn't like then he'd have Quatre call Trowa to bring some better stuff when he came to pick their friend up.

"But you need to drink, Wu. And eat if you can, but later." Duo reached for the cup and took it from Quatre with a smile. Then he offered it to Wufei. "Think you can drink some? For me?"

Wufei nodded, curling his hands around the mug and bringing it to his chest, sniffing the fragrant water before humming his approval and taking a long sip. "It's normal tea," he agreed with a nod, and leaned back to enjoy sipping at it.

"I'm glad you like it," Quatre said warmly. "We can make more if you'd like when you're done with that mug. I'm so glad you're doing well."

"You're being weird. Am I?" Wufei asked, leaning back into the sofa and nursing his tea.

Duo's smile was a happy one when the mug was taken from him. He scooted back after that and brought his legs up onto the sofa with him to curl into the other end.

"No one's being weird. And you are." Duo chuckled. "You're doing really well considering how unwell you feel."

"Everything feels weird," Wufei decided, with his face painted pink from all the lotion, but he was too happy to have the itching gone to mind about the color or the smell. "I'm glad I'm doing well, I would prefer to die in battle," he nodded a little, and then drained the mug, mostly so he could set it aside in favor of holding his panda again, and snuggling into the corner of the sofa.

"I think we'd all prefer if you didn't die at all," Quatre chuckled.

"Mmm, but isn't that why we're here? To sacrifice our lives in the hopes of creating a path to peace." Wufei couldn't bring himself to smile, but he did pull his legs up onto the couch, and pulled the blanket up to drape it over Duo's legs, too. "Martyrs for the cause," he frowned, leaning his head on the back of the sofa.

Duo was a bit surprised when Wufei shared the blanket with him. He was touched. His smile, while it had been sad first at Wufei's words, it softened some at that single act.

"Depends, Wu... Expecting to die and hoping to live, you can do both of these things, can't you? I'm no martyr, I fight so no one else has to. For a peace where no one has to lose family or friends, for a generation of kids to grow up not knowing war or..." Or what it felt like to starve on the streets. "If I die for that cause, so be it. But I'm not gonna go out of my way to get myself killed. If I can see that day when the sun rises on the first day of an actual peace, I'll be happy. And you..." He stretched out a leg and poked Wufei's thigh with the point of his foot. "You better be stood next to me watchin that sunrise too. You all better be." He couldn't poke Quatre with his foot so he shot a look that way instead.

Quatre smiled softly at that, nodding in agreement, but Wufei was a harder sell.

He hummed softly, looking down at Duo’s foot. “A warrior without a war is a sad thing to be,” he decided. “Ours was the colony Barton wanted to drop. We were meant to be the sacrifice,” but they were still up there, still holding onto life in the dilapidated and forgotten colony. He wondered what kind of life there would even be for his people, with nothing left to fight. His people were relics, in so many ways.

Duo gave a sort of sad smile and pulled his leg back then brought the both of them up to his chest to lean against.

He chewed over his words, not quite looking at either of his friends.

"But, Wufei? You're not a warrior. None of are. Least we weren't born that way. Who knows what we all would've been if we hadn't been born into this dammed war. If things hadn't conspired against us all." would he have been abandoned by his parents? Would he have been forced to live his younger years in the streets and suffered the losses he had? It was because of those things, a series of events that were often beyond his control, that brought Duo to this point. And he was sure it was the same for most of them. And he knew for sure it was for Wufei.

"We're warriors because we have to be. Haven't you ever thought about what you'd wanna do in your down time? Rebuild your colony? Rebuild your life? Do all those things you'd wanted when you were a kid?" a family, kids, a life.

He considered that for a long moment, turning it over in his mind and trying to figure out just what he thought and felt about it.

"I don't have my own time," Wufei replied with a little shrug. "I am my clan. If I survive the war I must return, remarry, lead the clan and produce an heir," his gaze stayed on the little panda. "Entertaining fairy tales only leads to heartbreak."

Quatre, to his credit, kept his mouth shut. He understood that particular kind of pressure a little too well, and he reached out to give Wufei's shoulder a gentle squeeze.

"He'll you talking about?" Duo asked, gentle but firm. "You think we'd let that happen? If it comes a day we save the damn world from itself there's no way we're gonna sit back and let you be a pawn in someone else's game."

He shifted forward to and sat, cross legged beside Wufei giving him the biggest grin he could muster.

"They'd have to get through me first! Unless leading the clan is something you wanna do." or any of those things. But the ones Wufei didn't want to do? Duo would protect his friends right to live his life the way he wanted.

Wufei couldn't help smiling, even letting out something close to a giggle. "Oh, they'll hate you," but he said it with nothing but affection. "It would be nice, to go back to school, or spend time in a monastery."

"That sounds nice," Quatre agreed, his smile warm and sunny. "Maybe we can be classmates. I'll need to go to University before I take over at WEI."

Duo smirked and looked oddly proud of that assessment. Somehow he didn't mind that Wufei's people would hate him so long as Wufei didn't.

"Then do those things. After all this, go back to school. Hell, maybe I'll join you guys!" Duo's only experience with school was back when he lived at the Maxwell Church, which didn't hold the best memories. And the few times he'd gone undercover at schools which were way too fancy for him. Technically... He'd never been to school like a normal person. Would they even allow him to skip all the starter stuff and go straight into a university?

Wufei laughed a little, eyes crinkling a little. “I’m not sure you’d enjoy it, school can be a very rigid structure,” and though he knew Duo was more than smart enough, he could see the constraints of the rules being frustrating for him.

“I don’t know, malicious compliance is a time-honored tradition at most Universities, and Duo would be very good at that,” Quatre grinned. “We should all do it. We don’t know each other nearly as well as we should.”

Duo pulled a face. Yeah, he'd get himself expelled so damn fast it'd make everyone else's heads spin. But he did brighten a bit at what Quatre said. Maybe it could work out?

"Worth a try? If I wash out no harm done. I've other skills I can turn my attention to!" he had a standing offer to work with Howard for example. If everything else fell through he knew he had the Sweepers who would welcome him as family.

Wufei laughed again. "If you get kicked out it'll be for something fun, not something boring like missing homework," Wufei replied lightly, giving the little panda another squeeze. "I think I'd like to get into trouble at school, I've never done that before."

Quatre was beaming at them both behind his mug. "I think that's a lovely idea, all five of us causing some pore administrator more headaches than they'd ever imagined possible," he took Wufei's empty mug as he stood, and took both to the kitchen for a refill.

"Oh no, are you telling me I'd be a bad influence on you, Wufei? You're supposed to be a good one on me. Show me the error of my ways and how to be a good student! Not tempt me into playing hooky with you!" He was laughing though, rather delighted at the idea of Wufei wanting to be a little rebellious. Duo wanted to see that happen honestly. Give the guy and excuse to let his hair down and have some fun.

He laughed some more at Quatre but the blond was already off to make more tea.

"You think Heero and Trowa would wanna do the whole school thing? I remember Heero being an overachiever when we were placed in some hoity toity school for the rich and dumb." Duo looked at Wufei and leaned closer. "Did you know he can ride a horse? That was never in my training!" Sort of wished it had been though. The horses had been pretty cool.

"Is it really bad if I have fun?" Wufei countered lightly, stretching his legs out and wedging his feet in between Duo's hip and the sofa with a tired smile. "I thought fun was your middle name. I haven't got one of those, you know."

When Duo mentioned Heero riding a horse, he had to laugh. "Are you sure he was riding it and not killing it from above?"

Quatre laughed, too, as he returned with fresh mugs, pressing one into Wufei's hand. "I certainly wouldn't trust him on any of my horses," he said lightly, shaking his head. "But if you'd like to learn, I'll teach you if we ever have the time." Between missions, or after the war, assuming they all survived. He was hopeful.
