The Walk Into A Bar Meme!

The bar's a comfortable place, where everyone knows you just have to walk up, give the bartender a smile, and order up a drink. Everyone goes to a bar sometime, whether to pick up a companion for the night, to pick up a friend, or pick up a drink. You never know the story behind the guy sitting next to you, or the bartender. But that's what bars are for, aren't they? To learn about the guy on the stool next to you, drinking his gin and tonic.

So what do you do in a Walk Into A Bar meme?

1. Comment here with your character and their canon in the subject line.

1. Sex on the Beach - You're here at the bar for one reason and one reason only, to find some company for the night. It might help, to buy them a drink first. But then they might throw that back in your face...

2. Tonic and Gin - Life's been one disaster after another lately, and the only thing that makes it easier is the sweet numbing taste of alcohol...

3. Midori Sour - Your friends dragged you out here and they've suddenly abandoned you for some rock star in the VIP lounge. Are you bitter? Maybe. Or maybe you'll just use the opportunity to flirt with the cute bartender...

4. Shirley Temple - You got a call five minutes ago asking you to come to the bar to pick up your too-intoxicated friend/brother/sister. But now that you're here, theydon't seem to be anywhere to be found...

Duo's smile was a happy one when the mug was taken from him. He scooted back after that and brought his legs up onto the sofa with him to curl into the other end.

"No one's being weird. And you are." Duo chuckled. "You're doing really well considering how unwell you feel."

"Everything feels weird," Wufei decided, with his face painted pink from all the lotion, but he was too happy to have the itching gone to mind about the color or the smell. "I'm glad I'm doing well, I would prefer to die in battle," he nodded a little, and then drained the mug, mostly so he could set it aside in favor of holding his panda again, and snuggling into the corner of the sofa.

"I think we'd all prefer if you didn't die at all," Quatre chuckled.

"Mmm, but isn't that why we're here? To sacrifice our lives in the hopes of creating a path to peace." Wufei couldn't bring himself to smile, but he did pull his legs up onto the couch, and pulled the blanket up to drape it over Duo's legs, too. "Martyrs for the cause," he frowned, leaning his head on the back of the sofa.

Duo was a bit surprised when Wufei shared the blanket with him. He was touched. His smile, while it had been sad first at Wufei's words, it softened some at that single act.

"Depends, Wu... Expecting to die and hoping to live, you can do both of these things, can't you? I'm no martyr, I fight so no one else has to. For a peace where no one has to lose family or friends, for a generation of kids to grow up not knowing war or..." Or what it felt like to starve on the streets. "If I die for that cause, so be it. But I'm not gonna go out of my way to get myself killed. If I can see that day when the sun rises on the first day of an actual peace, I'll be happy. And you..." He stretched out a leg and poked Wufei's thigh with the point of his foot. "You better be stood next to me watchin that sunrise too. You all better be." He couldn't poke Quatre with his foot so he shot a look that way instead.

Quatre smiled softly at that, nodding in agreement, but Wufei was a harder sell.

He hummed softly, looking down at Duo’s foot. “A warrior without a war is a sad thing to be,” he decided. “Ours was the colony Barton wanted to drop. We were meant to be the sacrifice,” but they were still up there, still holding onto life in the dilapidated and forgotten colony. He wondered what kind of life there would even be for his people, with nothing left to fight. His people were relics, in so many ways.

Duo gave a sort of sad smile and pulled his leg back then brought the both of them up to his chest to lean against.

He chewed over his words, not quite looking at either of his friends.

"But, Wufei? You're not a warrior. None of are. Least we weren't born that way. Who knows what we all would've been if we hadn't been born into this dammed war. If things hadn't conspired against us all." would he have been abandoned by his parents? Would he have been forced to live his younger years in the streets and suffered the losses he had? It was because of those things, a series of events that were often beyond his control, that brought Duo to this point. And he was sure it was the same for most of them. And he knew for sure it was for Wufei.

"We're warriors because we have to be. Haven't you ever thought about what you'd wanna do in your down time? Rebuild your colony? Rebuild your life? Do all those things you'd wanted when you were a kid?" a family, kids, a life.

He considered that for a long moment, turning it over in his mind and trying to figure out just what he thought and felt about it.

"I don't have my own time," Wufei replied with a little shrug. "I am my clan. If I survive the war I must return, remarry, lead the clan and produce an heir," his gaze stayed on the little panda. "Entertaining fairy tales only leads to heartbreak."

Quatre, to his credit, kept his mouth shut. He understood that particular kind of pressure a little too well, and he reached out to give Wufei's shoulder a gentle squeeze.

"He'll you talking about?" Duo asked, gentle but firm. "You think we'd let that happen? If it comes a day we save the damn world from itself there's no way we're gonna sit back and let you be a pawn in someone else's game."

He shifted forward to and sat, cross legged beside Wufei giving him the biggest grin he could muster.

"They'd have to get through me first! Unless leading the clan is something you wanna do." or any of those things. But the ones Wufei didn't want to do? Duo would protect his friends right to live his life the way he wanted.

Wufei couldn't help smiling, even letting out something close to a giggle. "Oh, they'll hate you," but he said it with nothing but affection. "It would be nice, to go back to school, or spend time in a monastery."

"That sounds nice," Quatre agreed, his smile warm and sunny. "Maybe we can be classmates. I'll need to go to University before I take over at WEI."

Duo smirked and looked oddly proud of that assessment. Somehow he didn't mind that Wufei's people would hate him so long as Wufei didn't.

"Then do those things. After all this, go back to school. Hell, maybe I'll join you guys!" Duo's only experience with school was back when he lived at the Maxwell Church, which didn't hold the best memories. And the few times he'd gone undercover at schools which were way too fancy for him. Technically... He'd never been to school like a normal person. Would they even allow him to skip all the starter stuff and go straight into a university?

Wufei laughed a little, eyes crinkling a little. “I’m not sure you’d enjoy it, school can be a very rigid structure,” and though he knew Duo was more than smart enough, he could see the constraints of the rules being frustrating for him.

“I don’t know, malicious compliance is a time-honored tradition at most Universities, and Duo would be very good at that,” Quatre grinned. “We should all do it. We don’t know each other nearly as well as we should.”

Duo pulled a face. Yeah, he'd get himself expelled so damn fast it'd make everyone else's heads spin. But he did brighten a bit at what Quatre said. Maybe it could work out?

"Worth a try? If I wash out no harm done. I've other skills I can turn my attention to!" he had a standing offer to work with Howard for example. If everything else fell through he knew he had the Sweepers who would welcome him as family.

Wufei laughed again. "If you get kicked out it'll be for something fun, not something boring like missing homework," Wufei replied lightly, giving the little panda another squeeze. "I think I'd like to get into trouble at school, I've never done that before."

Quatre was beaming at them both behind his mug. "I think that's a lovely idea, all five of us causing some pore administrator more headaches than they'd ever imagined possible," he took Wufei's empty mug as he stood, and took both to the kitchen for a refill.

"Oh no, are you telling me I'd be a bad influence on you, Wufei? You're supposed to be a good one on me. Show me the error of my ways and how to be a good student! Not tempt me into playing hooky with you!" He was laughing though, rather delighted at the idea of Wufei wanting to be a little rebellious. Duo wanted to see that happen honestly. Give the guy and excuse to let his hair down and have some fun.

He laughed some more at Quatre but the blond was already off to make more tea.

"You think Heero and Trowa would wanna do the whole school thing? I remember Heero being an overachiever when we were placed in some hoity toity school for the rich and dumb." Duo looked at Wufei and leaned closer. "Did you know he can ride a horse? That was never in my training!" Sort of wished it had been though. The horses had been pretty cool.

"Is it really bad if I have fun?" Wufei countered lightly, stretching his legs out and wedging his feet in between Duo's hip and the sofa with a tired smile. "I thought fun was your middle name. I haven't got one of those, you know."

When Duo mentioned Heero riding a horse, he had to laugh. "Are you sure he was riding it and not killing it from above?"

Quatre laughed, too, as he returned with fresh mugs, pressing one into Wufei's hand. "I certainly wouldn't trust him on any of my horses," he said lightly, shaking his head. "But if you'd like to learn, I'll teach you if we ever have the time." Between missions, or after the war, assuming they all survived. He was hopeful.

Subconsciously Duo dropped a hand when Wufei's foot wiggled itself between him and the sofa, it landed on his ankle and there it came to rest. Occasionally he'd move his thumb in little, slow circles as he spoke and laughed.

"I dunno, come to think of it the horse never seemed that happy... And hey, I never said you couldn't have fun! If fun's what you want then you come to the right guy!" He'd show Wufei a good time. Hell, he'd show them all a good time. After the hell they'd all been through, didn't they deserve that?

"Hold up, you've got horses, Quat? Since when? Why haven't you ever told me? Now you've gotta teach me how to ride!"

Wufei smiled warmly, humming happily as he accepted the mug and took a sip of the tea without really noticing he'd been duped into drinking more. "You'll have to show me how," he said lightly. "I'm no fun at all."

"We've a stable of racehorses, and a sanctuary for retired racers, too," Quatre replied lightly. "I'll teach you the very next time we get the chance," he promised.

Duo wasn't about to point out he was drinking a second cup of tea, he was just happy that Wufei was drinking at all.

"I dunno about that. You were pretty fun the other night." He grinned, even if Wufei didn't remember all of what had happened, he'd been fun at the time. "I think if you had the chance you could be. You just gotta give yourself that chance. Like learning to ride a horse with me!" Since Quatre was offering there was no way he was going to say no.

"Was I? I remember being happy," Wufei replied with a smile, leaning against the back of the sofa as he took a long drink from his mug. "I'm not sure if I'll like horses. They're awfully big," and he wasn't exactly great with animals. "I can try."

"We'll make sure you get a gentle mare," Quatre offered. "Someone who'll play nice with you." A true beginner's horse.

"You were definitely happy with the pancakes." Duo agreed with another laugh.

"And hey, who knows? You could be a genius horse whisperer, you won't know if you try. Maybe I'll be the one who keeps gettin kicked off?" He wouldn't really mind though, just getting to be around those big beasts would be interesting. "But a gentle mare sounds good. Someone to show you the ropes."

Wufei hummed happily. "I'll have to try them with you again," he suggested, hiding a yawn behind his mug and taking another long sip. "I'll try horses, too," he agreed, reaching out blindly to try and put his mug down.

Quatre took it from him, since he was nowhere near the coffee table, and set it down for him. "I'll arrange for it, the first time the opportunity arises," he promised, but kept his voice quiet.

Duo continued to slowly and gently stroke his thumb along the curve of Wufei's ankle, a gentle smile on his lips as he watched the poor guy struggling to stay awake.

"When you're better I'll treat you." He promised. "To celebrate our freedom." like Quatre he kept his voice low, soothing and quiet. He glanced over at Quatre with a grin. With luck Wufei would be asleep soon and then Quatre could call Trowa.

Wufei hummed in agreement, shifting the panda up under his chin as his eyes drooped. Two minutes later, his breathing evened out, signaling that he was asleep.

Quatre finished off his tea with a warm smile, and sent a text off to Trowa. "I'll see myself out," he said softly. "Let me know if you need anything else, alright? Or even if you just need a break. He seems to be easy to handle right now, but we all know how stubborn he can be."

"I can be just as stubborn." Duo chuckled and twisted around to climb off of the sofa. "Thanks for this, Quat. You've been a huge help. We should be okay for as long as it takes for him to kick this sickness. But if you can keep the Powers That Be off our backs until he's fit again..." the last thing they needed was for a mission to come through for him while he was still sick.

Quatre nodded, smiling as he headed to the door, waiting for Trowa to pull up. "Of course. You worry about him, the three of us can handle anything they send down. It's been unusually quiet this week, anyway, so they may be planning something a little larger than usual for our next move," or there was more happening up in space than he was able to get information on. Word from the colonies was hard to get, even their mission briefings were often sent in chunks instead of all at once. Except for Heero's, which were usually very short and to the point.

He pulled Duo into a tight hug. "I'm glad it's you with him."

It was oddly reassuring to know that there wasn't much going on. He trusted Quatre to tell him the truth, so he was able to push away the small feeling of guilt he had over being unable to take on missions. If they did have something bigger planned then he'd just be well rested enough to deal with it head on later!

Duo grinned and started to thank Quatre again when he was grabbed into a hug that startled him. It took a second but Duo relaxed and returned the hug tight. "Yeah, me too. But thanks again for all the help, Quat. I owe you one."
