The Walk Into A Bar Meme!

The bar's a comfortable place, where everyone knows you just have to walk up, give the bartender a smile, and order up a drink. Everyone goes to a bar sometime, whether to pick up a companion for the night, to pick up a friend, or pick up a drink. You never know the story behind the guy sitting next to you, or the bartender. But that's what bars are for, aren't they? To learn about the guy on the stool next to you, drinking his gin and tonic.

So what do you do in a Walk Into A Bar meme?

1. Comment here with your character and their canon in the subject line.
2. Hit RNG for a number between 1-15.
3. Tag someone else using that number as your character's reason for coming to the bar.

1. Sex on the Beach - You're here at the bar for one reason and one reason only, to find some company for the night. It might help, to buy them a drink first. But then they might throw that back in your face...

2. Tonic and Gin - Life's been one disaster after another lately, and the only thing that makes it easier is the sweet numbing taste of alcohol...

3. Midori Sour - Your friends dragged you out here and they've suddenly abandoned you for some rock star in the VIP lounge. Are you bitter? Maybe. Or maybe you'll just use the opportunity to flirt with the cute bartender...

4. Shirley Temple - You got a call five minutes ago asking you to come to the bar to pick up your too-intoxicated friend/brother/sister. But now that you're here, theydon't seem to be anywhere to be found...

"I'm sorry..." He breathed the words again, not quite able to look Wufei in the eye but still not able to move away either.

"I should've waited. I should have... But I just hated the way you were talking about yourself and the way you looked. And I just wanted..." he'd just wanted Wufei to know there were options. That his fate wasn't sealed yet. But was stupid enough to believe he would have any impact on Wufei's choices.

Gently he moved a hand to remove Wufei's from his wrist. "I know you wouldn't, Wu. You're a good guy and I...I took advantage of that. Its okay if you don't like me back, I get it." was he actually hearing the words Wufei said? Unclear, maybe not all of them. Duo was having a hard time keeping himself together. He'd never done anything like this before. Had never just thrown his heart out like that. And now he was afraid.

"Idiot," Wufei breathed the word, reaching up with both hands to cup Duo's cheeks if he could. "Look at me, Duo. Look."

Duo reacted to that word like he'd been struck, visibly flinching. But again, he didn't move away. When hands rose he expected to be hit, not taken between them. He swallowed past the lump in his throat and forced himself to look. He forced his eyes to meet Wufei's. And there was no hiding the pain and the shame in those deep blue depths.

He hadn't had the word for what he felt, not until Duo looked at him, until he could feel his heart crumbling in his chest. "You really can't see how much I love you?" He brushed his thumbs over the curve of Duo's cheekbones, as if wiping away tears even though there were none. "You're so friendly and kind with everyone, I didn't realize..." he sighed softly.

There should have been tears. There would have been tears, if Duo could cry. But boys didn't cry. Even if this was a damn good reason to he refused to let the tears fall. Instead he let his lashes fall and closed his eyes, shielding him from the image in front of him.

"Neither can you." He replied quietly. "You can't blame me if you've never seen it too..." And Duo had been louder with his feelings. No, he hadn't outright said the words. Not directly. And not to a sober Wufei. But he'd genuinely thought his actions would show just how much he cared.

"But I'm not, Wufei." Duo shook his head then and opened his eyes once more. "I'm not friendly and kind to everyone. I act the fool with everyone. Keep them laughing and they've no time for questions. But you..." with Wufei he'd not wanted to do that. He'd wanted to be close. At least enough to be his friend. Duo didn't dare dream for more.

"But I know..." Duo's tone quietened as he took a shaky breath. "I knew...you liked me. I just couldn't say anything."

He huffed out a quiet chuckle. "I suppose not," he agreed softly, gently pulling Duo closer as he listened, so he could press their foreheads together and narrow the world down to just the two of them. "We must both be idiots, then."

"Because with me you've been kind, and gentle, and understanding, even when I didn't deserve it. You make me feel safe, like there's a little piece of home with me, whenever you're near," and he leaned in, to kiss him tenderly if Duo didn't pull away.

Duo didn't resist when he was pulled, he had no power to stop Wufei. No will of his own. But he did start to shake his head when he was told they were both idiots. Wufei wasn't an idiot. Not by a long shot. Duo wanted to protest but Wufei just kept on talking.

He wanted to shout as well. Wanted to point at all the things Wufei had just told him as proof of his feelings. Of course he'd been kind and gentle and understanding. He was that way because Wufei deserved it. Because he'd wanted to show just how much he'd given a shit.

But again he wasn't given a chance to reply before lips covered his own. Wufei had leaned in before he could be stopped, not that Duo could have stopped him even if he'd wanted. They were soft, the kiss was gentle and Wufei's lips were so warm... Duo's hand slowly lifted press against Wufei's chest, but he didn't push him away. It took him a second but he slowly returned Wufei's kiss.

He let out a tiny, relieved sigh when Duo kissed him back, sliding his hands down Duo's neck, over his shoulders, until his arms were lowered to loop around his waist. Holding him, but not firmly, not so much that Duo couldn't pull away if he wanted. "I'm sorry," he said softly when the kiss broke. "I never meant to hurt you."

When arms went around his waist, Duo let his own arm raise the rest of the way to curl around Wufei's neck. He had no plans on moving unless Wufei pushed him away.

"Shut up." Duo closed his eyes and pressed his forehead against Wufei's when they finally parted to breathe. "I don't wanna hear you apologise, Wufei. You haven't done anything wrong." it was his own fault for being sensitive. Build walls high enough, when they come crumbling down he had no way to defend himself. But that wasn't Wufei's fault at all.

He chuckled softly. "Alright, how about I thank you instead?" he replied. "Thank you, for being so kind to me. Thank you for risking your life to make me feel safe. Thank you for making congee. And most importantly of all, thank you for telling me how you feel," and he punctuated each one with another little kiss, relaxing as he held Duo close and let out a happy little sigh.

With each kiss Duo was battling a smile. It was hard. By the end of it he had to laugh.

"You're not mad?" he had to ask as he pulled back to look at Wufei. "I'd hoped you'd remember. But then you got sick and..." more and more he had started to think Wufei was never going to remember. And then hearing Wufei talk about arranger marriages and how no one would want him. And maybe there was a little jealousy at the thought he might pick Heero over him...

He couldn't help laughing, too. "Mad about what?" he replied, shaking his head a little. "I've nothing to be mad about. You're in my arms now, aren't you?" He smiled, stealing another little kiss. "Should be mad at myself, for getting blackout drunk in the first place," especially since he was fifteen, and knew damn well that it was terrible for his body, but he'd also believed himself likely to be dead in a year's time.

"Yeah, well, you had a reason for that." And who could have predicted the kind of conversation they'd end up having afterwards?

After another soft kiss, Duo's arms tightened around Wufei and held him damn tight. He hugged him, laughing softly even while he buried his face in the others shoulder. "So you're not mad... And you like me back... And this is okay to do. Haha this is insane." and why did he sound so happy about that? It was all he'd ever wanted.

He chuckled warmly, giving Duo a gentle squeeze. "I'm not mad, I love you, and this is very, very okay. In fact, you may be holding me up," he was far more amused than he should've been about it, but the moment had been intense, and he was still very much recovering from his fever breaking the night before.

"Shit. Right." All he needed was a kick in the right direction, a nudge to remind him of where he was and Duo had pulled back from Wufei.

"You need to sit down before you fall down." After all this time helping him get better, Duo wouldng be responsible for making him worse. So he took Wufei's hand and lead him through into the living room and the sofa. "I shoulda remembered." He felt like he was all over the place. All he needed was a minute to get his shit together. To soothe his nerves and stop embarrassing himself.

He let Duo lead him back to the living room, chuckling as they reached the sofa. "In all fairness, I was too distracted to realize it was creeping up on me," he replied warmly, and lowered into the sofa with a soft sigh. "It'll take me a few days to regain my strength," and then they'd no doubt be back to missions, so it was best to enjoy the quality time while it was available to them.

After all, any day could be their last.

Duo dropped down beside Wufei, one leg curled under him and the other hanging off the edge. He faced Wufei, a soft smile on his lips. Like he couldn't quite work out if the other was real or if this was his own kind of fever dream.

"Take your time. Quatre running interference for us. At least for you. So you've time to get back on your feet." No he could be called on as soon as Wufei started showing signs of being better. Or he could be swapped out for someone else easily enough. So far they'd been lucky. But he had to imagine it had something to do with the guys helping them out more than anything.

Wufei hummed in agreement, shifting a little so he could face Duo and lean into the arm of the sofa. "Thank goodness for that," he agreed softly, and reached out to brush a little hair away from Duo's face. "So what did you leave out, of what we talked about when I was drunk? It seems like I must've opened up a great deal more than I'd thought." And his smile said very clearly that he was glad he had -- it was just a shame he had to sacrifice his liver for the courage.

"I don't wanna say." Duo smiled when Wufei reached for him, his eyes fell closed but the touch was brief so they soon opened again.

"Maybe you did. Maybe I did. But I don't mind having those conversations again sometime when you're sober. You were kinda all over the place anyway." He laughed and, moving his own arm to rest across the back of the sofa, he dropped his head onto it and relaxed. "You told me you liked me. That I was like an 'ornate knife' or something. You laughed a lot."

He smiled, settling in and letting the tiredness start to catch up to him in earnest. He listened, smiling that soft little smile as he did, humming in agreement. "An ornate knife? I must have been feeling poetic, but it's an apt description," he agreed. "Can I make you a promise?"

"You can make me any promise you want." Duo confirmed, his smile one full of affection. He could see it in Wufei's eyes now. In the way he wss turning almost into a liquid. He'd end up falling asleep soon. Maybe he should have encouraged him to go back to bed instead?

Duo was right on the money about how long Wufei would be keeping his eyes open, but that was at least ten percent because he was so happy. He hummed in agreement as his smile spread into a little grin. "If we both survive this war, I won't marry her. I'll be yours, for as long, and in whatever ways, as you want me."

Duo went very still then. Staring at Wufei quietly as his mind raced to catch up with what he was being told.

He'd almost made a joke earlier about how Wufei was supposed to ask him to marry him now he was sober and knew Duo liked him. That was what he'd told him in the car. But he would t have meant it. It would have been a joke. Except...

Except now he was being offered up some hope for the future where there used to be none. And Duo wasn't sure what he was supposed to do with that.

So he was quiet.

And then he moved. He reached out and hooked an arm behind Wufei's knees, yanking his legs up and toward him even as he moved forward to bodily push Wufei back down onto the sofa. Once he was lain down... Duo lay down with him, pressed between Wufei and the back of the couch he wrapped his arms around the other and just held him close.

"I want..." He stopped, his voice was rough, thick with emotion and he took a second to clear his throat before trying again. "I wanna survive this war with you."

There was a part of Wufei that wished Duo didn't have such a hard time believing these things, but there was another that relished the moment when Duo went from uncertainty to acceptance, watching that tiny shift as he decided to reach out and take what was being offered.

Wufei blushed as Duo moved him, but he was relaxed and pliant, shifting in whatever way seemed most likely to align with what Duo intended. When Duo snuggled down behind him, held him close, he let out a happy little hum and settled his arm over one of Duo's.

"Then we will," he said it with surprisingly simple confidence. "And then we'll have the rest of our lives to figure everything else out, together." But boy it sure did sound like he was barely keeping his eyes open.

That sleepy tone of voice was adorable, and one of the reasons Duo had made him lie down. The other was so that he could cuddle up with him. They could nap together and he'd get the chance to just hold Wufei and enjoy that for a little while. It was all he wanted right then. Just to hold and be close and just...even for a moment, imagine what a future could be like.

"Yeah. Together. We'll do that, Wu. When this is all over we'll do everything we've always wanted." He smiled and leaned in to press his face against the back of Wufei's shoulder and closed his eyes. "Now go to sleep. You're fightin it."
