The Walk Into A Bar Meme!

The bar's a comfortable place, where everyone knows you just have to walk up, give the bartender a smile, and order up a drink. Everyone goes to a bar sometime, whether to pick up a companion for the night, to pick up a friend, or pick up a drink. You never know the story behind the guy sitting next to you, or the bartender. But that's what bars are for, aren't they? To learn about the guy on the stool next to you, drinking his gin and tonic.

So what do you do in a Walk Into A Bar meme?

Wufei hummed in agreement. "I like cats, too. There were some mousers at my boarding school that were always very friendly. And they're fairly self-sufficient."

"Cat," Heero agreed. He wasn't sure he'd be able to handle a dog after what he'd done to that puppy so long ago. He frowned tightly at himself. "Cats are nice. When they're not in the way."

"Yeah, when I was a kid there were a few stray cats that'd let me pet 'em. They weren't as bad as the stray dogs..." Duo laughed lightly before ending it on a sigh. He'd absentmindedly started to brush his fingers across Heero's shoulder, just playing with the fabric of his shirt.

"We'd need to wait till we find a permanent kinda home before thinking of getting pets, huh? That's a weird ass thought though. Having a home that's just there all the time." And yet, Duo really wanted one. It didn't bother him if he had to travel around so long as he had somewhere to come back to. A stable point, a fixed location that was just his.

"Stray dogs can be dangerous," Wufei agreed. "But yes, it does require some kind of permanent residence, and some level of stability, too. You can leave a cat on its own for a few days, but any longer than that and you'll at least need someone to look in on them, refill the food bowl, clean out the litterbox."

"A real home," Heero insisted. "Not a garage or a lab or a converted warehouse. A house. With bedrooms and a kitchen and sinks that aren't made of yellowing plastic." He sighed softly, relaxing a little more against Duo. "I want to buy things to put in it, just because I like how they look. Things that don't do anything useful."

Duo tipped his head and let his rest against Wufei's hair, eyes falling closed as he daydreamed about things he couldn't quite have yet. But things he wanted. Things he dare not even try to dream about usually because it would be bound to go up in flames. If it was all three of them dreaming of the same thing though, or all five of them, maybe it would work? Maybe his bad luck would be counteracted by the force of all of them? Now wouldn't that be nice?

"Like a cat?" Duo joked. Cats weren't really useful. They were just there, occasionally screaming for pets or food.

Heero laughed, a quiet little sound as Duo asked the question. "Yeah," he agreed. "Like a cat. Or maybe a painting."

"Figurines, too," Wufei agreed with a chuckle. "Movies and books and music disks. Maybe I'll be able to buy back Altron someday."

Duo grinned brightly, loving he was able to get Heero to laugh, even if it wasn't a big belly laugh it was good enough for him. Both of them laughing made him feel pretty damn good.

"Think all those are good ideas." He said, his smile softening. Duo was happy. He was warm. And now that he felt relaxed he was beginning to feel that stress he refused to acknowledge ease away, leaving him feeling slightly sleepy.

"And big beds, so you don't have to sleep alone," Heero suggested, nuzzling his face into Duo's shoulder a little. "Is it nice? Not sleeping alone?"

"It's very nice," Wufei agreed with a little smile. "It'd be a tight fit, but I think all three of us could fit in the bigger bed upstairs, if you want to try it." He, for one, was not ready to try sleeping alone again just yet.

Duo's eyes sleepily blink open on feeling the weird sensation of Heero rubbing his cheek against his shoulder. For a long moment he just stares wonderingly at the sight. Who needed a cat when there was a Heero? He hadn't even known Heero could do something so... so cute!

He heard Heero's words, then Wufei's, and looked between them both.

"Uh... am I missing something?" They were all going to try and sleep together? And Wufei was okay with that? Heero was okay with that? Should he have been surprised though? Heero was practically sprawled against him, had just been nuzzling him. Was sleeping beside him that much different?

"I guess... I guess if you guys actually wanted to. We could just pull the mattress onto the ground and the other one beside it." That would double the size of the bed. They could have actually brought the whole bed into the room and pressed them together, but it ran the rest of the bedframe moving and someone falling in between. "Unless you guys wanna be squished together with me."

"No," Wufei replied blandly. "But if we want something, with the way our lives go we'd best seize it while we can, so we won't have any regrets if something were to happen," he was tired of denying himself the things he wanted. He'd spent his whole life tied up in his clan's rules, and he was finally starting to realize that he didn't have to follow them anymore.

Heero hummed softly as he closed his eyes. "I like tight spaces." He was too tired and too concussed to think anything through right now.

Wufei he could understand. Heero, though? "That's just weird, dude." He couldn't help laugh. Who in their right mind liked tight spaces?

"But okay. If we're gonna carpe diem our sleeping arrangements..." Duo had to pull his arm away from Heero, hand lifting to cover his mouth and a yawn. "How bout you guys work it out while I get a nap? I don't actually think I got that much sleep last night." He finally admitted, having avoided Wufei's question earlier, there was no denying it now.

Heero sighed softly when Duo pulled away, but nodded. "Okay. We'll decide how to move things."

"Please actually sleep this time," Wufei replied with a little smirk, straightening up so Duo wouldn't have any trouble getting up.

It was... weirdly cold when he slipped out from under that blanket and away from the warmth of the other two. So much so he felt himself shiver, but laughed it off as he turned to face them both.

"Yeah, I'll do my best." If he could switch his brain off it would be great, but time would tell. Duo took himself up to bed, yawning all the way, and got his ass back into his pj's. It was at that point he decided when he woke he wouldn't be taking them off. What was the actual point? Not like he was going anywhere! Then he climbed under the covers and closed his eyes to try and sleep.

It didn't take him long to realise that Wufei was an asshole.

In fact Wufei was twice the asshole Duo thought he was because when he finally came down from that nap, Wufei and Heero were draped across the sofa together, bundled up in the blanket and fast asleep. Wufei was on bottom, with Heero settled on his chest, one of Wufei's hands in his hair.

It was damned cute, except for the part where Duo was missing out.

It took Duo far longer than he cared to admit to for him to finally fall asleep. And even then he woke up less than two hours later. Realising that he wasn't going to sleep, he got up and grabbed that shower he'd wanted instead.

Not long later he made his way downstairs, in his pjs still, towelling his hair dry. And there he froze, a strange feeling overcame him. Yes, the sight was cute. But at the same time... he wasn't entirely sure how he felt. There was an odd tingling in his fingers that made them itch and he rubbed them absently against the rough fabric of the towel in his hands.

Silently he slipped passed the two and into the kitchen where he went and quietly made himself a cup of coffee. Since sleep wasn't something he would be getting any time soon, caffeine would have to do. After grabbing his laptop he sat down at the kitchen table with it open, surfing, drinking coffee after coffee all while slowly drying his hair.

It was a little while before Wufei woke with a soft groan, hand sliding out of Heero's hair to rub over his face... and groan again when he realized he'd just smeared ointment on himself. "Shit," he mumbled, dropping his hand back into Heero's hair, and nudging him gently. "Let me up."

Heero grunted softly and didn't move an inch.

Hair still damp, Duo had very, very loosely braided it to let it hang over the back of his chair to dry some more. He had his elbows on the table and his chin in his hands and eyes on his laptop. Until he heard a sound from the living room. His gaze flickered that way. Hearing Wufei he turned his attention back to his laptop. He was sure they'd be able to sort themselves out.

Duo did reach out and turn the movie off that he'd been watching on low and went back to looking up camping gear.

"If you think I'm above dumping you on your ass..." Wufei let his threat linger.

Apparently it was enough, and Heero growled out something that sounded like an insult as he sat up, taking the entire blanket with him, pulling it around himself.

Wufei dragged himself out of the sofa, and snorted when Heero took the whole thing for himself. So, he padded into the kitchen to wash his hands. "How much sleep did you get?" he asked, feigning a casual tone.

Duo reached for his coffee and took a sip after offering up a gentle smile to Wufei. "Enough, I think." He hedged, not wanting to lie but not thinking the truth was anything important. "Had a shower, feel like a brand new man." He chuckled and reached out with his free hand, sipping coffee with one he tapped away lazily at his laptop with his other.

"Everything okay?" Duo asked then, giving a pointed look at what Wufei was doing at the sink and raised a brow. Not every day a guy wakes up from a nap needing to wash his hands.

Wufei hummed, coming over to rub Duo's shoulders. Maybe it was just to be nice, maybe he was gauging tension. "Everything's fine," he assured. "I must've put my hand in Heero's hair while we were sleeping. Got ointment all over it," he explained blandly, gaze wandering over the computer screen as his hands continued to work at the muscles in Duo's shoulders.

His shoulders were tense and even tensed a little more at the sudden touch, but he relaxed a moment later with a breath of a laugh and a shake of his head. "Gotta be careful of that stuff. Gets everywhere."

Duo put down his mug, it was mostly empty anyway. He'd make another pot when he knew the noise wouldn't bother anyone. In the meantime he just folded his arm on the table top and continued on his search. He didn't bother hiding the page. It was just camping equipment after all. He'd decided to look at just what kind of things were out there and the price ranges he was looking at. Maybe it was silly, but he was curious. Earlier he'd been looking at cats as well.

"Certainly does," he agreed softly, smiling a little as he did. "Looks like you plan to rough it a little less than we're used to when we take that camping trip, huh?" But it made perfect sense. No point in suffering if you didn't need to, and camping was supposed to be fun.

"Yeah..." He muttered distractedly, arm lifting to drop his cheek into his hand now, he shrugged his other shoulder. "It was somethin to think about."

Roughing it was all well and good, but Duo didn't want to be miserable when he went camping.

Wufei glanced at the living room and dropped his voice a little softer. "Heero's being... affectionate, isn't he? I'm not imagining it, right?"

Duo couldn't help himself, he snorted a soft laugh. "You're askin me that?" He asked and leaned himself back in his seat, his hand dropping to his lap and tipped his head to look up at Wufei.

"He's concussed and feelin delicate. It's not your imagination." But whether it would last after Heero was feeling better was anyone's guess.

Wufei shrugged when Duo looked up at him, smiling as he leaned down to kiss Duo's nose. "Well, I'm not exactly recovered myself," he admitted. "I wished he felt comfortable enough to be like this all the time. He's... kind of sweet. When he's not trying to pin me."
