The bar's a comfortable place, where everyone knows you just have to walk up, give the bartender a smile, and order up a drink. Everyone goes to a bar sometime, whether to pick up a companion for the night, to pick up a friend, or pick up a drink. You never know the story behind the guy sitting next to you, or the bartender. But that's what bars are for, aren't they? To learn about the guy on the stool next to you, drinking his gin and tonic.

So what do you do in a Walk Into A Bar meme?

1. Sex on the Beach - You're here at the bar for one reason and one reason only, to find some company for the night. It might help, to buy them a drink first. But then they might throw that back in your face...

2. Tonic and Gin - Life's been one disaster after another lately, and the only thing that makes it easier is the sweet numbing taste of alcohol...

3. Midori Sour - Your friends dragged you out here and they've suddenly abandoned you for some rock star in the VIP lounge. Are you bitter? Maybe. Or maybe you'll just use the opportunity to flirt with the cute bartender...

4. Shirley Temple - You got a call five minutes ago asking you to come to the bar to pick up your too-intoxicated friend/brother/sister. But now that you're here, theydon't seem to be anywhere to be found...

"Yeah, well, you had a reason for that." And who could have predicted the kind of conversation they'd end up having afterwards?

After another soft kiss, Duo's arms tightened around Wufei and held him damn tight. He hugged him, laughing softly even while he buried his face in the others shoulder. "So you're not mad... And you like me back... And this is okay to do. Haha this is insane." and why did he sound so happy about that? It was all he'd ever wanted.

He chuckled warmly, giving Duo a gentle squeeze. "I'm not mad, I love you, and this is very, very okay. In fact, you may be holding me up," he was far more amused than he should've been about it, but the moment had been intense, and he was still very much recovering from his fever breaking the night before.

"Shit. Right." All he needed was a kick in the right direction, a nudge to remind him of where he was and Duo had pulled back from Wufei.

"You need to sit down before you fall down." After all this time helping him get better, Duo wouldng be responsible for making him worse. So he took Wufei's hand and lead him through into the living room and the sofa. "I shoulda remembered." He felt like he was all over the place. All he needed was a minute to get his shit together. To soothe his nerves and stop embarrassing himself.

He let Duo lead him back to the living room, chuckling as they reached the sofa. "In all fairness, I was too distracted to realize it was creeping up on me," he replied warmly, and lowered into the sofa with a soft sigh. "It'll take me a few days to regain my strength," and then they'd no doubt be back to missions, so it was best to enjoy the quality time while it was available to them.

After all, any day could be their last.

Duo dropped down beside Wufei, one leg curled under him and the other hanging off the edge. He faced Wufei, a soft smile on his lips. Like he couldn't quite work out if the other was real or if this was his own kind of fever dream.

"Take your time. Quatre running interference for us. At least for you. So you've time to get back on your feet." No he could be called on as soon as Wufei started showing signs of being better. Or he could be swapped out for someone else easily enough. So far they'd been lucky. But he had to imagine it had something to do with the guys helping them out more than anything.

Wufei hummed in agreement, shifting a little so he could face Duo and lean into the arm of the sofa. "Thank goodness for that," he agreed softly, and reached out to brush a little hair away from Duo's face. "So what did you leave out, of what we talked about when I was drunk? It seems like I must've opened up a great deal more than I'd thought." And his smile said very clearly that he was glad he had -- it was just a shame he had to sacrifice his liver for the courage.

"I don't wanna say." Duo smiled when Wufei reached for him, his eyes fell closed but the touch was brief so they soon opened again.

"Maybe you did. Maybe I did. But I don't mind having those conversations again sometime when you're sober. You were kinda all over the place anyway." He laughed and, moving his own arm to rest across the back of the sofa, he dropped his head onto it and relaxed. "You told me you liked me. That I was like an 'ornate knife' or something. You laughed a lot."

He smiled, settling in and letting the tiredness start to catch up to him in earnest. He listened, smiling that soft little smile as he did, humming in agreement. "An ornate knife? I must have been feeling poetic, but it's an apt description," he agreed. "Can I make you a promise?"

"You can make me any promise you want." Duo confirmed, his smile one full of affection. He could see it in Wufei's eyes now. In the way he wss turning almost into a liquid. He'd end up falling asleep soon. Maybe he should have encouraged him to go back to bed instead?

Duo was right on the money about how long Wufei would be keeping his eyes open, but that was at least ten percent because he was so happy. He hummed in agreement as his smile spread into a little grin. "If we both survive this war, I won't marry her. I'll be yours, for as long, and in whatever ways, as you want me."

Duo went very still then. Staring at Wufei quietly as his mind raced to catch up with what he was being told.

He'd almost made a joke earlier about how Wufei was supposed to ask him to marry him now he was sober and knew Duo liked him. That was what he'd told him in the car. But he would t have meant it. It would have been a joke. Except...

Except now he was being offered up some hope for the future where there used to be none. And Duo wasn't sure what he was supposed to do with that.

So he was quiet.

And then he moved. He reached out and hooked an arm behind Wufei's knees, yanking his legs up and toward him even as he moved forward to bodily push Wufei back down onto the sofa. Once he was lain down... Duo lay down with him, pressed between Wufei and the back of the couch he wrapped his arms around the other and just held him close.

"I want..." He stopped, his voice was rough, thick with emotion and he took a second to clear his throat before trying again. "I wanna survive this war with you."

There was a part of Wufei that wished Duo didn't have such a hard time believing these things, but there was another that relished the moment when Duo went from uncertainty to acceptance, watching that tiny shift as he decided to reach out and take what was being offered.

Wufei blushed as Duo moved him, but he was relaxed and pliant, shifting in whatever way seemed most likely to align with what Duo intended. When Duo snuggled down behind him, held him close, he let out a happy little hum and settled his arm over one of Duo's.

"Then we will," he said it with surprisingly simple confidence. "And then we'll have the rest of our lives to figure everything else out, together." But boy it sure did sound like he was barely keeping his eyes open.

That sleepy tone of voice was adorable, and one of the reasons Duo had made him lie down. The other was so that he could cuddle up with him. They could nap together and he'd get the chance to just hold Wufei and enjoy that for a little while. It was all he wanted right then. Just to hold and be close and just...even for a moment, imagine what a future could be like.

"Yeah. Together. We'll do that, Wu. When this is all over we'll do everything we've always wanted." He smiled and leaned in to press his face against the back of Wufei's shoulder and closed his eyes. "Now go to sleep. You're fightin it."

He hummed in agreement. "Cause I wanna enjoy this," he replied, and interrupted himself with a yawn. "Haven't been held since I was little," and he was profoundly touch-starved as a result.

He was also profoundly tired, and about two seconds later, his breathing evened out.

"I'll hold you all you want, Wu." He promised quietly. "Always will." But Duo had a feeling that Wufei was fast asleep before he'd even finished talking.

So he just fell quiet and carried on holding Wufei, keeping him secure against himself so he couldn't roll off of the sofa. Eventually he fell asleep too, curled behind Wufei.

He was indeed out before Duo was done talking, and stayed that way for no less than six hours before nature's call woke up, and he let out a long sigh as he slowly started drifting up from sleep. He reached up with a hand, rubbing at his eyes a little.

Duo hadn't lasted the whole six hours. He'd only slept for a couple before he'd had to get up, but he'd covered Wufei up after he did.

For a while Duo had pottered around as quietly, he'd stripped his bed and put clean sheets on, finished the dishes, cleaned as much as he could... and eventually he'd gone to take a shower. Right then he was in an armchair, hair loose and over his shoulder just brushing it slowly as he watched something muted on the small laptop balanced on the arm of the chair.

Wufei sighed again, stretching his legs out and groaning quietly as his joints popped, then went limp again. "Time's it?" he asked groggily, forcing his eyes open and smiling a little when he caught sight of Duo. It warmed when he remembered how he'd ended up on the sofa, and slowly pushed himself into a sitting position.

"About 4." Duo looked away from his laptop and grinned. He wanted to tell Wufei he should stay resting but knew after so long he'd probably want to sit up so left him to it. "Feeling any better? You slept like a rock."

"Much," he agreed with a sigh, pulling the blanket over his legs and leaning back in the sofa. "Sorry for dropping off so suddenly on you," he was definitely blushing, at least a little.

Duo shook his head as he put the brush aside and began separating his hair into three to start braiding it. "Hey, why're you sorry?" He asked in a warm, tender tone. "You needed the rest. You're still getting over being sick, Wu. Don't be so hard on yourself."

[pilot05]

"Because you almost had to scrape me off the kitchen floor," he replied with a chuckle. "After a very emotionally charged moment, no less," he was sure he wouldn't have heard the end of it if he'd actually fainted on poor Duo.

His hands paused for a moment in what he was doing, but soon started up again until he was able to tie the end off with a band.

"Should be me saying sorry then. I knew you were still sick but I had to up the drama." If Wufei had actually fainted on him, Duo would have been beside himself with guilt. There wouldn't be any room for teasing. At least not for a while. "So don't sweat it, Wu. We got to the sofa in one piece. I'm glad it wasn't worse."

He chuckled warmly at that, flashing Duo a sheepish grin. "There is one thing we never circled back to. That teddy bear for Heero," he hesitated for a second. "I got it in the hopes that it might help him relax during his down-time. He's not had a great deal of kindness in his life, and I thought perhaps we -- the four of us -- should show him some." So he'd bought the teddy bear, with the intention of going first and bearing the brunt of Heero's wrath if it went terribly awry.

"Wu... you don't have to..." But he was. He was explaining himself and Duo just felt ashamed of himself. Wufei shouldn't have had to explain himself. Whether that bear had been for a friend or a love interest really hadn't been any of Duo's business. At least he hadn't meant it to be. He'd really not meant to get jealous over something so silly. Heero was a good looking guy after all.

But on given the explanation it made him feel terrible. It was such a nice thing to do, and here he was being a jerk over it. He could have kicked his own ass if he hadn't been sat on it.

"... What if... we called him here?" Duo suggested quietly, glancing up from where he'd been staring at his lap. "If he's not on a mission."
