The bar's a comfortable place, where everyone knows you just have to walk up, give the bartender a smile, and order up a drink. Everyone goes to a bar sometime, whether to pick up a companion for the night, to pick up a friend, or pick up a drink. You never know the story behind the guy sitting next to you, or the bartender. But that's what bars are for, aren't they? To learn about the guy on the stool next to you, drinking his gin and tonic.

So what do you do in a Walk Into A Bar meme?

1. Comment here with your character and their canon in the subject line.

1. Sex on the Beach - You're here at the bar for one reason and one reason only, to find some company for the night. It might help, to buy them a drink first. But then they might throw that back in your face...

2. Tonic and Gin - Life's been one disaster after another lately, and the only thing that makes it easier is the sweet numbing taste of alcohol...

3. Midori Sour - Your friends dragged you out here and they've suddenly abandoned you for some rock star in the VIP lounge. Are you bitter? Maybe. Or maybe you'll just use the opportunity to flirt with the cute bartender...

4. Shirley Temple - You got a call five minutes ago asking you to come to the bar to pick up your too-intoxicated friend/brother/sister. But now that you're here, theydon't seem to be anywhere to be found...

Wufei hummed in agreement, shifting the panda up under his chin as his eyes drooped. Two minutes later, his breathing evened out, signaling that he was asleep.

Quatre finished off his tea with a warm smile, and sent a text off to Trowa. "I'll see myself out," he said softly. "Let me know if you need anything else, alright? Or even if you just need a break. He seems to be easy to handle right now, but we all know how stubborn he can be."

"I can be just as stubborn." Duo chuckled and twisted around to climb off of the sofa. "Thanks for this, Quat. You've been a huge help. We should be okay for as long as it takes for him to kick this sickness. But if you can keep the Powers That Be off our backs until he's fit again..." the last thing they needed was for a mission to come through for him while he was still sick.

Quatre nodded, smiling as he headed to the door, waiting for Trowa to pull up. "Of course. You worry about him, the three of us can handle anything they send down. It's been unusually quiet this week, anyway, so they may be planning something a little larger than usual for our next move," or there was more happening up in space than he was able to get information on. Word from the colonies was hard to get, even their mission briefings were often sent in chunks instead of all at once. Except for Heero's, which were usually very short and to the point.

He pulled Duo into a tight hug. "I'm glad it's you with him."

It was oddly reassuring to know that there wasn't much going on. He trusted Quatre to tell him the truth, so he was able to push away the small feeling of guilt he had over being unable to take on missions. If they did have something bigger planned then he'd just be well rested enough to deal with it head on later!

Duo grinned and started to thank Quatre again when he was grabbed into a hug that startled him. It took a second but Duo relaxed and returned the hug tight. "Yeah, me too. But thanks again for all the help, Quat. I owe you one."

"You don't owe me anything," Quatre assured warmly. "Just look after him, and keep me updated. I'll handle everything else," and he pulled away, peeked out the window. "That's my ride," he flashed a grin. "I'll see you when he's feeling better." And then he was dashing out the door, to hop back into the 'delivery' van.

"I'll do my best." After that it was just waving farewell to Quatre and Trowa and then closing the door behind them. He activated the security system again and then turned to face the house.

Wufei was still asleep which was good. Duo smiled and quietly padded past him and into the kitchen where he finished putting everything away. Only when he was done did he consider what they could eat, and what Wufei could stomach.

Then he got an idea.

With the help of the Internet, Duo began his preparation. After a while the quiet started to make him feel on edge. So he sang to himself. Not loud enough to wake Wufei, he wasn't dumb enough to belt out the lyrics, but loud enough to make him feel a bit better. Sometimes he sang songs from artists on the radio, some oldies and even some of those church songs he'd heard in his youth. And sometimes he'd just hum to himself as he happily attempted to make congee.

Wufei slept for quite a while before all that tea caught up with him, and he shuffled quietly from the living room to the bathroom. Then he, still bundled in his blanket, shuffled into the kitchen with his tea mug, giving it a rinse in the sink. "You sound happy," he said softly, bringing his rinsed and empty mug over to stand next to Duo, attempting to take a sip of his tea before realizing that he couldn't. Because it was empty. He frowned into the mug. "My head is still wrong."

Hearing Wufei finally waking and shuffling around, Duo rose from where he'd been sat at the kitchen table to continue on with the cooking. Now that Wufei was up he could finish things off.

He was all smiled when Wufei joined him, and laughed lightly when the poor guy tried to drink from an empty cup. So with a gentle touch, he guided Wufei to the table and took the mug from him to make him tea. "Just keeping myself busy. You relax, let me get you a drink." He would have asked how he was doing but this told him more than words ever could.

"Think you could eat a little something?" He asked once he brought a fresh cup of tea to the table for Wufei, as well as a few pills to help with any aches and pains and fever.

Wufei hummed, letting himself be sat down at the table, smiling a little as he watched Duo making the tea. "I think so. I'm not nauseous, I just feel like I'm in the ocean," he replied, rubbing his hands over his face and grimacing when some of the lotion flaked off under his hands. "Ew." He was very glad that Duo had his mug still, he didn't want to drink face-flakes.

He might also have forgotten that there was lotion on his face at all. "Did I get sunburned?"

He laughed, hooked a chair with his foot and pulled it over so that he could sit himself down beside Wufei.

"It's calamine lotion for the rashes. Might have time for a quick shower if it's that bad? We can reapply the stuff after you've eaten. How's that sound?" Duo kept his tone gentle and kind, Wufei was having such a hard time of it. He only wanted to make it easier for him. He just hoped all the fussing wouldn't come back and bite him on the ass once Wufei was better. He could see the guy refusing to have anything to do with him after this out of embarrassment.

Wufei hummed, nodding as he remembered the lotion, and Quatre, and the tea, and... "I must seem very sick to you, but I'm always like this when I get a fever," he said, carefully sweeping up the little bits of lotion to throw away. "Showering is a good idea," he agreed. "And food," he was actually kind of hungry, which was probably a very good sign. "I'll hurry," he promised, and if he was lucky his shower would be as short as they usually were.

He shuffled to the trash can, dumping in the little blobs of dried up lotion, leaving the blanket draped over the chair he'd been sitting in, and went to shower. Luckily the cool water was soothing and helped clear his head, so he was able to be almost as fast as he usually was before he returned, once again in the pajamas.

"Fever's can be dangerous..." Duo's smile faded a little, his tone quieting... Then he cleared his throat, forced a smile and pushed himself back to his feet.

"Take your time, Wu. Should be done by the time you get back." If he'd done everything right and it was even edible of course! He waited for Wufei to head out before he carried on. By the time Wufei had come back there were bowls of plain, creamy congee on the table with sides of stir fried vegetables and marinated chicken. As well a fresh mug of tea. He had mug of soda instead.

Wufei hummed in agreement. "But you'll keep me safe," he replied as he left.

He came back after his shower and settled himself into the seat with his blanket, looking a lot more awake and smiling softly as he saw the food laid out. "You made congee," and he looked like he was about to cry. Happy tears, at least.

"No no no, don't say that yet! You gotta taste it first!" Duo protested with laughter in his voice. "I tried to make it, I've not sure I actually did it or not. But hey, it's my first time, gotta start somewhere!" He'd searched several sites on the internet for recipes but he thought he'd managed to get it looking like the pictures online. He'd had a little taste and it was pretty bland... which he supposed was why all the sites suggested having sides. But he had no idea how to make pickled ginger or kimchi.

"I hope it's not too bad..."

Wufei picked up his spoon and gave the congee a little stir before scooping up a bite and eating it. He let out a long, happy sigh as he swallowed, and this time the tears really did spill. "It's perfect," he replied softly, and took another bite before he could say something that would actually embarrass him.

Duo shifted awkwardly. He'd never known how to handle crying. Crying kids, crying women and now crying Wufei's.

"Hey... uh... I'm sorry." All he'd wanted to do was try and make something nice that Wufei would eat. He'd spoken about it that night so he'd tried to make some. If Wufei was being honest then he'd done right. But now he was crying and Duo wasn't sure what to do. So he reached out and covered one of Wufei's hands with his own.

Wufei shook his head firmly, turning his hand over to squeeze Duo's gently. "Don't be sorry, it's perfect," he repeated between bites. "Like home."

He blinked when Wufei actually took his hand. He thought about taking it back, but in the end he kept it there for a little longer.

"Guess I'm glad you like it then." His smile widened, really happy that Wufei liked his cooking. He didn't often get a chance to cook so when he did he enjoyed it. And now he'd found something that Wufei would eat. "Wasn't sure what kinda toppings you liked. There were so many options!"

He paused to wipe away his tears, smiling sheepishly. "No toppings for sick people," Wufei replied, even as he scooped a little of that chicken onto his congee. Because it was there and it looked tasty, too. "You're really good at this."

If he'd been able to he would have wiped them away himself. Or kissed them away... But that wasn't something he could do. Not while Wufei was sick and still unaware. So he just smiled, brighter when he was given praise.

"You think so? I'll make this as many times as you want then. Any time you want."

He nodded, smiling a little more at Duo as he ate. His compliment had been meant in a broader sense, but he couldn't fault Duo for taking it as something smaller, and he was a little too tired and confused to work out the best way to correct it. Maybe, when he was better, he'd remember.

For now, he was just going to eat his congee and drink his tea and do everything he could to get better. Well, if he could stop scratching. He didn't even realize he was doing it, but after a bite he stuck his spoon in the congee and scratched at his leg a little.

Duo had to eventually let go of Wufei's hand so he could eat too. The congee really was kind of bland, but with the vegetables and the chicken it wasn't as bad as it seemed. He thought he could probably get used to this, if he added a bit more flavour. Maybe some spice...

And yes, he noticed Wufei itching. He shifted a leg and lifted it to very gently nudge his friend.

"Stop. Once you've eaten we'll get more lotion on you. Think you can hold off till then? You'll scar if you scratch them, apparently."

He grunted softly, putting his hand back on the table. "Sorry," he replied, almost automatically, and smiled at Duo. "I've already got lots of scars," but he understood the concern enough to resist the urge to scratch.

So he focused on keeping one hand flat on the table, and the other he used to eat, carefully making sure he got every last little morsel of the congee. He wouldn't let any little bit of it escape.

He was tempted to take that hand again, but he trusted Wufei to control himself for a little longer. Because yeah, he might have battle scars, but there was no need to get more if he could help it!

Duo happily finished off his meal and once Wufei had finished his, he gathered the dirty dishes and stacked them in the sink. He filled it with water to soak and then turned to Wufei.

"Those can wait. Let's get you back in the living room and creamed up!" before he left he went to the fridge to grab two bottles of juice and carried them into the room with them. The bottles were set in the table and swapped out for the calamine lotion. "Where do you wanna start?"

Wufei managed to keep his hand on the table the whole time, and didn't even itch while Duo was taking the dishes away. He nodded when Duo suggested they went to the living room, grabbing the blanket and heading back out, stripping down to his underwear and popping open the lotion to smear it on the itchiest spots first, letting out a sigh of relif as it started to work. "My neck," he replied to the question, as he started working on his chest. "How long is this supposed to last?" As if he had any sense of time.
