The bar's a comfortable place, where everyone knows you just have to walk up, give the bartender a smile, and order up a drink. Everyone goes to a bar sometime, whether to pick up a companion for the night, to pick up a friend, or pick up a drink. You never know the story behind the guy sitting next to you, or the bartender. But that's what bars are for, aren't they? To learn about the guy on the stool next to you, drinking his gin and tonic.

So what do you do in a Walk Into A Bar meme?

1. Comment here with your character and their canon in the subject line.

1. Sex on the Beach - You're here at the bar for one reason and one reason only, to find some company for the night. It might help, to buy them a drink first. But then they might throw that back in your face...

2. Tonic and Gin - Life's been one disaster after another lately, and the only thing that makes it easier is the sweet numbing taste of alcohol...

3. Midori Sour - Your friends dragged you out here and they've suddenly abandoned you for some rock star in the VIP lounge. Are you bitter? Maybe. Or maybe you'll just use the opportunity to flirt with the cute bartender...

4. Shirley Temple - You got a call five minutes ago asking you to come to the bar to pick up your too-intoxicated friend/brother/sister. But now that you're here, theydon't seem to be anywhere to be found...

Wufei hummed, letting himself be sat down at the table, smiling a little as he watched Duo making the tea. "I think so. I'm not nauseous, I just feel like I'm in the ocean," he replied, rubbing his hands over his face and grimacing when some of the lotion flaked off under his hands. "Ew." He was very glad that Duo had his mug still, he didn't want to drink face-flakes.

He might also have forgotten that there was lotion on his face at all. "Did I get sunburned?"

He laughed, hooked a chair with his foot and pulled it over so that he could sit himself down beside Wufei.

"It's calamine lotion for the rashes. Might have time for a quick shower if it's that bad? We can reapply the stuff after you've eaten. How's that sound?" Duo kept his tone gentle and kind, Wufei was having such a hard time of it. He only wanted to make it easier for him. He just hoped all the fussing wouldn't come back and bite him on the ass once Wufei was better. He could see the guy refusing to have anything to do with him after this out of embarrassment.

Wufei hummed, nodding as he remembered the lotion, and Quatre, and the tea, and... "I must seem very sick to you, but I'm always like this when I get a fever," he said, carefully sweeping up the little bits of lotion to throw away. "Showering is a good idea," he agreed. "And food," he was actually kind of hungry, which was probably a very good sign. "I'll hurry," he promised, and if he was lucky his shower would be as short as they usually were.

He shuffled to the trash can, dumping in the little blobs of dried up lotion, leaving the blanket draped over the chair he'd been sitting in, and went to shower. Luckily the cool water was soothing and helped clear his head, so he was able to be almost as fast as he usually was before he returned, once again in the pajamas.

"Fever's can be dangerous..." Duo's smile faded a little, his tone quieting... Then he cleared his throat, forced a smile and pushed himself back to his feet.

"Take your time, Wu. Should be done by the time you get back." If he'd done everything right and it was even edible of course! He waited for Wufei to head out before he carried on. By the time Wufei had come back there were bowls of plain, creamy congee on the table with sides of stir fried vegetables and marinated chicken. As well a fresh mug of tea. He had mug of soda instead.

Wufei hummed in agreement. "But you'll keep me safe," he replied as he left.

He came back after his shower and settled himself into the seat with his blanket, looking a lot more awake and smiling softly as he saw the food laid out. "You made congee," and he looked like he was about to cry. Happy tears, at least.

"No no no, don't say that yet! You gotta taste it first!" Duo protested with laughter in his voice. "I tried to make it, I've not sure I actually did it or not. But hey, it's my first time, gotta start somewhere!" He'd searched several sites on the internet for recipes but he thought he'd managed to get it looking like the pictures online. He'd had a little taste and it was pretty bland... which he supposed was why all the sites suggested having sides. But he had no idea how to make pickled ginger or kimchi.

"I hope it's not too bad..."

Wufei picked up his spoon and gave the congee a little stir before scooping up a bite and eating it. He let out a long, happy sigh as he swallowed, and this time the tears really did spill. "It's perfect," he replied softly, and took another bite before he could say something that would actually embarrass him.

Duo shifted awkwardly. He'd never known how to handle crying. Crying kids, crying women and now crying Wufei's.

"Hey... uh... I'm sorry." All he'd wanted to do was try and make something nice that Wufei would eat. He'd spoken about it that night so he'd tried to make some. If Wufei was being honest then he'd done right. But now he was crying and Duo wasn't sure what to do. So he reached out and covered one of Wufei's hands with his own.

Wufei shook his head firmly, turning his hand over to squeeze Duo's gently. "Don't be sorry, it's perfect," he repeated between bites. "Like home."

He blinked when Wufei actually took his hand. He thought about taking it back, but in the end he kept it there for a little longer.

"Guess I'm glad you like it then." His smile widened, really happy that Wufei liked his cooking. He didn't often get a chance to cook so when he did he enjoyed it. And now he'd found something that Wufei would eat. "Wasn't sure what kinda toppings you liked. There were so many options!"

He paused to wipe away his tears, smiling sheepishly. "No toppings for sick people," Wufei replied, even as he scooped a little of that chicken onto his congee. Because it was there and it looked tasty, too. "You're really good at this."

If he'd been able to he would have wiped them away himself. Or kissed them away... But that wasn't something he could do. Not while Wufei was sick and still unaware. So he just smiled, brighter when he was given praise.

"You think so? I'll make this as many times as you want then. Any time you want."

He nodded, smiling a little more at Duo as he ate. His compliment had been meant in a broader sense, but he couldn't fault Duo for taking it as something smaller, and he was a little too tired and confused to work out the best way to correct it. Maybe, when he was better, he'd remember.

For now, he was just going to eat his congee and drink his tea and do everything he could to get better. Well, if he could stop scratching. He didn't even realize he was doing it, but after a bite he stuck his spoon in the congee and scratched at his leg a little.

Duo had to eventually let go of Wufei's hand so he could eat too. The congee really was kind of bland, but with the vegetables and the chicken it wasn't as bad as it seemed. He thought he could probably get used to this, if he added a bit more flavour. Maybe some spice...

And yes, he noticed Wufei itching. He shifted a leg and lifted it to very gently nudge his friend.

"Stop. Once you've eaten we'll get more lotion on you. Think you can hold off till then? You'll scar if you scratch them, apparently."

He grunted softly, putting his hand back on the table. "Sorry," he replied, almost automatically, and smiled at Duo. "I've already got lots of scars," but he understood the concern enough to resist the urge to scratch.

So he focused on keeping one hand flat on the table, and the other he used to eat, carefully making sure he got every last little morsel of the congee. He wouldn't let any little bit of it escape.

He was tempted to take that hand again, but he trusted Wufei to control himself for a little longer. Because yeah, he might have battle scars, but there was no need to get more if he could help it!

Duo happily finished off his meal and once Wufei had finished his, he gathered the dirty dishes and stacked them in the sink. He filled it with water to soak and then turned to Wufei.

"Those can wait. Let's get you back in the living room and creamed up!" before he left he went to the fridge to grab two bottles of juice and carried them into the room with them. The bottles were set in the table and swapped out for the calamine lotion. "Where do you wanna start?"

Wufei managed to keep his hand on the table the whole time, and didn't even itch while Duo was taking the dishes away. He nodded when Duo suggested they went to the living room, grabbing the blanket and heading back out, stripping down to his underwear and popping open the lotion to smear it on the itchiest spots first, letting out a sigh of relif as it started to work. "My neck," he replied to the question, as he started working on his chest. "How long is this supposed to last?" As if he had any sense of time.

"The lotion or the chicken pox?" Duo moved into the sofa. He knelt on it beside Wufei and gently began applying the cream to the affected areas on his neck.

"Should be about a week or so for the pox. The lotion should keep working until the. We've more bottles and Quat said he'd bring more if we need them." From Wufei's neck be moved to his shoulders and back. "It's just gonna take time."

"Chicken pox," Wufei replied tiredly, putting the lotion where he itched because he didn't quite have the attention span to just smear it everywhere. So, when he thought Duo was done with his back he turned around and looked... well. A bit like he was covered in little pink polka dots. "I need to find the chicken that gave it to me and eat it," he grumbled.

"I'll find it with you." Duo grinned as he raised a hand to gently dab at a few marks on Wufei's cheeks that he'd missed. "We can pluck it and stuff it and have it in a roast." Though if he was honest he had no idea why chicken pox was called chicken pox. Was it really because of chickens? If not then why? Duo chuckled to himself and smeared a little more cream on the tip of his friends nose, just because he could.

Wufei nodded, then held still for Duo to finish putting the cream on his face, giggling a little when some was smeared on his nose. "But first... silkworms?" he suggested. He was already feeling sluggish again, and things here felt so safe and warm, it was hard to remember they were in the middle of a war.

"Think you'd be more comfortable being a silkworm in bed?" Duo suggested, rather taken by that giggle and doing his damned best not to show just how much that laugh just plain melted him inside. "Sleeping on the sofa isn't good long term." Again he lifted a hand, only this time it was to tuck a strand of hair behind Wufei's ear. "Don't wanna add more aches and pains on top of your fever."

Wufei carefully pulled his pajamas back on, considering the suggestion with a soft sigh. "Alright, but only once," he wasn't making an abundance of sense, but that was probably just the fever talking. "Are you going to be a silkworm?" As he gathered his blanket up again, wrapped it around himself a bit before grabbing the panda, too.

That little stuffed panda was going to be something he kept forever, probably.

"I'll clean up down here and head up to bed soon." Duo promised and rose to his feet and pulled the blanket a little closer in front around Wufei. "I'll just be across the hall, I'll keep my door open so if you need anything then shout, okay?" He was a light enough sleeper, if he slept at all, he'd hear Wufei.

Wufei hummed in agreement, nodding a little at Duo. "Okay," he replied, and shuffled himself away upstairs.

But instead of crawling into his own bed, Duo would find that Wufei had grabbed his pillow and taken up half of Duo's bed. He was only half asleep when Duo came up, panda stuffed up under his chin as he tried to keep his eyes open.
