The Walk Into A Bar Meme!

The bar's a comfortable place, where everyone knows you just have to walk up, give the bartender a smile, and order up a drink. Everyone goes to a bar sometime, whether to pick up a companion for the night, to pick up a friend, or pick up a drink. You never know the story behind the guy sitting next to you, or the bartender. But that's what bars are for, aren't they? To learn about the guy on the stool next to you, drinking his gin and tonic.

So what do you do in a Walk Into A Bar meme?

"Beaks? Sounds creepy." He gave a sympathetic smile and moved his hand so he could gently run it up and down Wufei's arm over the blankets.

"Maybe a bath'll help? I'm not sure honestly. Think we're gonna need someone to bring us supplies, like calamine lotion." He'd read that was good for the itching rash that came with Chicken Pox. "Wonder if any of the guys are still around...?"

"Very," he agreed, letting out a long sigh. "Cold bath might help. Quatre always hovers, he's probably still nearby." And Wufei could put up with the blonde's overbearing sort of concern if it meant the itching would ease off.

He had no idea how much worse it was going to get.

"I'll give him a call then. Need me to run the bath or... you think you'll be okay with it?" Truthfully he wasn't even sure he wanted Wufei getting up from the sofa, but he couldn't sit on the guy for the rest of time. Wufei wasn't an invalid, he was just sick.

Wufei shook his head. "I'll be fine if I move slowly," he assured, and carefully unwrapped himself from the blanket, getting to his feet and stepping out of it. The little blisters on his face were starting to look like they wanted to pop, and red spots were showing up on every exposed inch of skin he had.

He made his way upstairs, nice and slow, and got himself a bath running, nice and cool, and stripped down to crawl into the water, splashing it on his face to ease the itch a bit. He'd left the door cracked for Duo's sake, but wasn't paying much attention to anything, trusting Duo to handle the security entirely -- he didn't have the presence of mind to manage it while he was sick.

Duo winced seeing just how bad Wufei was looking. He really did wish he could help more, but all he could do was wait for him to leave and then find his phone to give Quatre a call.

When he found his phone he thought about texting, but in the end just straight up made the call to Quatre.

Quatre picked up on the first ring. "Oh-four," he chirped. "How is everything? Do you need something? Is he in good spirits?"

"Need a bunch of things. You got a pen?" Duo waited a beat to find out if Quatre had, or for him to go and get one before he rattled off a list of things they needed. If they were going to have to stick around the safe house for longer, they would need more food stuffs. Including what he needed to make congee because... well, why not? But more importantly were the medicines that Wufei would need. Including as much calamine lotion as Quatre could find.

Only when he was done did he heave a sigh.

"He's holding up. He looks awful though. So if you can get that stuff here asap, the food things can wait. But that lotion... Also no one gets in here. Full quarantine is in effect. Chicken Pox is contagious."

"Sure," Quatre agreed, and got a pad and pen ready, writing it all down when Duo rattled off the list. He made little sounds confirming he had each item written down, and then listened to Duo's sigh.

"I'll have it there this afternoon, but Duo... we're all vaccinated against it. He should've been, too. Do you know if he's missing any other vaccines? I can't get them for him today, but I can get just about anything in a week or less," Quatre offered. "Honestly, sending him down without it... what were they thinking?"

"I don't think he's had any. So if you can organise that?" Duo was pretty sure Wufei would be willing to get every single vaccine known to man after he recovered from his chicken pox. He almost laughed at the thought. Nothing like the fear of dying to change your mind about a thing.

"He's in the bath right now tryin to soothe the itching. So if you can get the stuff here soon as pos, that'd be great." Duo realised Quatre couldn't do anything faster just because he asked, but he couldn't help stressing it was very much needed.

There was a silence as Quatre took a moment to push down his initial reaction. "Of course," he replied, a little more tensely than he normally would. "I'll get him everything. Except the chicken pox, of course. Once he's over it, he'll have natural immunity," he agreed.

And he laughed at the urgency. "I will, I promise. Just keep him comfortable, it'll probably be an hour, but I'll be there soon," and he hung up before Duo could worry any more at him. There was little doubt that he'd be treating it like a mission and getting everything as quickly and efficiently as possible.

Sure enough, an hour and fifteen minutes later, there was a coded knock at the front door, and Quatre on the front step, in a delivery uniform, with a massive box that no doubt had everything on Duo's list inside.

Wufei was still in the bath, because the water was cool and soothing, and it was helping with the fever he was already spiking.

If there was anyone Duo trusted with this then it was Quatre. So he wished him goodbye and then spent the rest of the time pottering about. A few times he'd moved halfway up the stairs just to call up to Wufei and check he was still with him and hadn't actually fallen asleep in the tub. But for the most part he let him be and relax.

When the knock finally came, Duo was on it in a heartbeat and pulled it open. There was a moment where Duo's expression went slack seeing Quatre on the doorstep... but in a flash he was grinning. "You weren't kidding. You sure you wanna come into Ground Zero?" He asked even as he was sidestepping to let Quatre in. Till he noticed the box, then he was bending to help pull it into the house.

Wufei called back each time, of course, but when he heard the front door, he decided it was probably time to get out, pulling the plug on the drain and crawling out of the cool water to towel off.

"Even if I do catch it, it'll be milder than poor Wufei is dealing with," Quatre replied, smiling over the box to Duo. He gave a wave with his hat in the open door, and the delivery truck he'd taken the box out of pulled away. "Trowa will come back to get me when I send for him, but I figured this was the best way to get here without looking suspicious," as he nudged the door shut with his foot and helped Duo get the box on the floor. He got the security re-armed, and then turned to look down at the box with a sigh. "First things first, the lotion," which was right on top, a full case of the stuff. "Hopefully that'll be enough, but they restock on Tuesdays and I can get more then if you need it."

"Quat? You're amazing and I love you and this is the best." Duo grinned at the blond even as he crouched to look through everything. The lotion came in a case of the stuff so he was sure they'd get some good use of it. Out of curiosity he opened the cap of one and took a sniff, only to wrinkle his nose and pull away sharply.

"That stinks. As if the poor guy needs more things to be unhappy about..." Thinking about Wufei, Duo realised something and leaned back on a hand, head falling back to the point his braid trailed on the ground. Then he called up the stairs. "Yo! Wu! We've company so make sure you're decent!" Straightening after he warning, Duo grinned over at Quatre.

Duo's yelling earned a grumpy groaning sound. "Who?" Wufei demanded, as he shuffled across the hallway and to his bedroom to get some clothes on, underwear and a pair of very loose pajamas.

Quatre couldn't help giggling, helping Duo unpack all the supplies. "I may have also put in a few things I thought he might find comforting." In the bottom of one corner there was a little stuffed panda, a poetry book, and a box of Wufei's favorite tea.

"Quatre!" Duo called back while putting things away with the guy. And when he found those things in the box, Duo couldn't help grinning at his blond friend.

"You're gonna be his new bestfriend for this." Duo laughed and pulled those things out and set them on the counter where Wufei would be able to find them easily. Then he concentrated on getting everything else in he relevant places. They were stocked up now for a week or two of being holed up in the safe house while they waited for Wufei to get over his illness. Duo was feeling much better about things now. A lot calmer now they were fully supplied.

Wufei made his way down the stairs, frowning a little as he came down and eyed the panda, the book, the tea. He let out a long sigh that said he wanted to be pissed about the toy, but he couldn't bring himself to be anything but grateful. "Should I turn into a silkworm again?" He picked the panda up, squeezing it to his chest.

"Uh..?" Quatre blinked, as he carried an armful of soup to the kitchen. "I'm not sure turning into a silkworm is a good idea. I brought calamine to help with the itching."

Duo glanced over at Wufei then to Quatre and gave a slight shake of his head. His smile was aimed back at Wufei though.

"Go silkworm it up, Wu. I'll come over with some tea and the lotion and we'll get it on you. That bath helped, huh? You were in it long enough. Bet you've pruned up." Duo's tone was... gentle. He knew Wufei felt like shit, he was hugging a damn teddy bear to his chest! Because he wasn't feeling great he wasn't willing to tease him too much.

He headed through to the kitchen to fill the kettle with water and get it boiling for tea while Wufei did his wormy thing.

Wufei nodded, shuffling off with his panda to cocoon himself in the blanket once more, tucking himself into the corner of the sofa. "I look like I've been pickled, but I itch less."

"Oh," Quatre whispered as Wufei left the room. "He looks so... soft. We're never going to be able to talk about this again without pissing him off, are we?" he couldn't help grinning. It was a treat to see Wufei with his defenses down, but taking advantage of it was entirely out of the question, and he knew it. "You think he's going to swear us to secrecy about it?"

"Probably. But when do you get to think he's cute without risking a sword to the throat?" Duo kept his voice low when he replied to Quatre, chuckling at the idea. He was also glad that Quatre had worked out what he had. Teasing Wufei right now just wasn't worth it. There was just something about him that made you want to be gentle, even tender. Duo was having to force himself to stop fussing nearly as much as he wanted to.

"This'll be a point of embarrassment but... nice knowin there's a softer side somewhere in there." Duo had to wonder if this was what Wufei was like before the war. Before everything got screwed up. He was just finishing up the single cup of tea before he realised they had a guest, then he grinned. "Want a cup, Quat?"

"Never," Quatre agreed with a grin. "I'd always felt some quiet undercurrents with him, but I didn't think I'd ever get to see them. And I'll take any excuse to stay a little longer that you can give me."

In the living room, Wufei was all bundled up with his panda, legs tucked up on the sofa. He even started the TV up, stuck it on a random channel, and settled in for a while, squeezing the panda every time he resisted the urge to scratch his rashes. He was too tired and too sick to even ask for what he needed at the moment, just slowly sinking lower in the sofa until his head was pillowed on the arm of it.

Duo grinned and grabbed another mug to make another cup of tea. "Then stay a while.

Once the tea was made he pushed the cup over for Quatre and grabbed the one for Wufei. In his other hand he took one of the bottles of lotion and brought them both through to the living room where Wufei was curled up.

"Hey there. I've some tea, think you can drink it?" He asked gently as he sat himself down beside Wufei. "I've some lotion here too. Should help with that itching. Do you... uh... do you want me to help you put it on? Or do you wanna try it yourself?" Duo knew how important choice was here, as well as those helpless feelings you got when you were sick. He didn't want to take Wufei's independence from him but would help if he was needed to. Gladly, in fact. "... I can at least get your back for you?"

Quatre took his mug and followed Duo out, perching himself in a chair and just... quietly observing.

"Cream first," Wufei replied, giving the panda a squeeze before setting it aside and pulling down the blanket, tugging off his shirt. "And if we both put it on, it'll be faster. Otherwise I might decide flaying myself is easier," and if he was pouting a little, what of it? He held his hand out for some of the lotion.

Quatre had to bite down on his cheek to hold in a laugh.

"Cream first then!" Duo answered cheerfully and leaned over to put the tea down on the table. Only when he sat back did he find that Wufei had gone ahead and removed his shirt and had his hand held out to him. Laughing, he popped the cap on the cream and pressed out a generous amount onto Wufei's hand.

"How's this? You get your front, I'll do the back. And your face." Because how could Wufei see his face? It'd be easier for Duo to do that part he thought. But the back was simple enough and after a little nudge to get Wufei shifting to the side enough so he could reach it, Duo began gently applying the cream to the rashes he could see.

Wufei nodded in agreement, turning his back to Duo and starting to spread it over his arms and chest. "Okay," he agreed softly, frowning down at his body. "And no jokes," he added, casting a sidelong glance at Quatre.

"None at all," Quatre promised with a smile. "I'm just here for moral support. And to let you know I'm sourcing vaccines for you, anything you might've missed along with the chicken pox one." And then he kept Wufei distracted from all the itching, talking about how many vaccines, and which ones he could remember getting.

When his back and torso were done, Wufei got up and shed his pants, so they could get his legs. Normally he would've had more modesty, but with all the itching they were just lucky he kept his underwear on at all.

Duo was quiet for a change, just happy to let Quatre do the talking while he focused on getting all of those itchy spots for Wufei. He did more than just the back, moving to shoulders and the backs of his arms, anywhere Wufei would have trouble to get to.

Then the pants game off and Duo just flashed a grin. No jokes. Them slipped off the edge of the sofa to kneel beside it and began applying creme to the rashes there. It seemed there weren't as many on his legs than his torso but there were more than enough yo be irritating.

"Hopefully this helps..."
