The Walk Into A Bar Meme!
The bar's a comfortable place, where everyone knows you just have to walk up, give the bartender a smile, and order up a drink. Everyone goes to a bar sometime, whether to pick up a companion for the night, to pick up a friend, or pick up a drink. You never know the story behind the guy sitting next to you, or the bartender. But that's what bars are for, aren't they? To learn about the guy on the stool next to you, drinking his gin and tonic.
So what do you do in a Walk Into A Bar meme?
1. Comment here with your character and their canon in the subject line.
2. Hit RNG for a number between 1-15.
3. Tag someone else using that number as your character's reason for coming to the bar.
4. Profit!
1. Sex on the Beach - You're here at the bar for one reason and one reason only, to find some company for the night. It might help, to buy them a drink first. But then they might throw that back in your face...
2. Tonic and Gin - Life's been one disaster after another lately, and the only thing that makes it easier is the sweet numbing taste of alcohol...
3. Midori Sour - Your friends dragged you out here and they've suddenly abandoned you for some rock star in the VIP lounge. Are you bitter? Maybe. Or maybe you'll just use the opportunity to flirt with the cute bartender...
4. Shirley Temple - You got a call five minutes ago asking you to come to the bar to pick up your too-intoxicated friend/brother/sister. But now that you're here, theydon't seem to be anywhere to be found...
5. Poolside Pleasure - There's nothing like being on vacation in a tropical paradise, is there? And what better way to soak in that tropical vibe than to swim up to the Tiki Bar for a relaxing fruity drink with a paper umbrella?
6. Moonshine - Maybe you're underaged. Or maybe the bar isn't exactly what you'd call legal. Whatever the reason, you're not supposed to be here, but you are, and while you're here, might as well get something to wet your whistle, right? Just be careful not to get caught...
7. Hair of the Dog - Last night was... do you even remember last night? Probably not, given the wicked hangover pounding in your head right now. Well, nothing cure a hangover like having a drink in the morning to take the edge off, right?
8. Champagne - Something great has happened! Did you get a promotion? Kill your nemesis? Whatever it is, you feel great and it's time everyone celebrated with you. A round of champagne on the house!
9. Shaken, not Stirred - To everyone else, this is a regular bar, but not to you. You know you're here to meet a clandestine contact, an enemy informer or a secret spy. Better play it cool and keep your eyes open...
10. Sunken Pirate Ship - You've been out on the high seas for months, and finally made it into port with your pockets full of gold. What're you going to do first? Drink that gold away or buy some company for the evening? You can do both at the bar...
11. Punch in the Rain - You're the bouncer of this bar and you think the guy sitting next to you has probably had too much to drink. Maybe it's time to cut them off. Hopefully they'll go easy, huh?
12. Bartender - Everyone who walks through the door has a story to tell, and you're the guy they love to tell those stories to. Are you the type to listen, or the type to slip a little something extra into their drink in hopes that they shut up about their sob story?
13. Absinthe - Whatever it is you just drank didn't seem to agree with you. And at the corner of your eye you keep seeing this bright green faerie... Is everything happening around you reality, or have you slipped into some kind of hallucination?
14. 357 Magnum - Did you just insult my mother? Whether or not they did, you sure think so, and you know what's the best way to settle things in a bar? With a bar brawl, of course!
15. Happy Hour - Anything goes! Got another scenario you want to play out, this is the place for it!

And he even managed to sleep once he was in bed again, curling up on his side and snoozing right up until dinner time, and only then waking because a mild storm had rolled in and he wasn’t used to the sound of rain yet. He was positively flushed when he sat up, rubbing a hand down his face, then over his neck. He’d been sure sleeping was supposed to improve things, but he felt much, much worse. He was even sweating, just from existing.
no subject
In the meantime he went about cleaning. The things from lunch were cleared away and the rest of the stew refrigerated. He fixed the living room. And then for the hours where Wufei was asleep he pottered about doing whatever he could to keep his mind occupied.
When the rain began he ended up glued to the window watching. And when that rain turned to a storm, Duo was at the backdoor with a mug of tea in hand watching it. The sky had darkened and, if he was lucky, he got to see little flashes of lightning. The rumbles of thunder had Duo smiling and lips moving in a slow count until he got those flashes.
Colony born, he'd never experienced 'weather' until he'd come to Earth. And he loved it. Rains in particular where so damn powerful. Duo felt like he would almost feel the energy thrumming in his bones.
no subject
“You’re going to get struck by lightning if you keep standing in the weather,” he warned, voice so rough he hardly recognized it as his own. Wufei had been on colonies all his life, too, but rather than finding the weather enticing or beautiful he just found it fucking terrifying. At least when it came to thunder and lightning. He’d ridden out a monsoon in Nataku a few months back and the incident was not something he particularly wanted to repeat. It was like the Earth itself had been trying to fight him.
no subject
"... Buddy, you look like shit." Duo dropped his hand, set the tea aside and closed the door. He was a little on the damp side from standing so close to the rain but Duo didn't seem to care as he hurried over to Wufei. Immediately he'd lifted a cold hand to press against Wufei's forehead. His eyes widened. "... You're burning up."
no subject
He was conveniently forgetting that he was on a planet now, with all the mutating germs that implied, and none of the vaccines one would need for that kind of travel because his colony had been registered as uninhabited.
“I was going to try to eat more, if you’re done trying to kill yourself with lightning.”
no subject
"Just because you've not been sick in a while doesn't mean you're immune to it. You look and sound like shit, Wufei. You've caught a damn cold at least. But hey, what do I know?" He held his hands up and backed away, only to drop them a moment later and take himself into the kitchen.
There was no comment on the lightning, he didn't think it needed one.
"Soup fine with you?" Canned, he wasn't skilled enough to make his own from scratch, nor had money enough for those kinds of fresh produce. "What about grilled cheese? You had that before? Those two go together." And simple enough to make and easy on a sore throat. Though Duo belatedly realised that Wufei probably wouldn't eat it all so maybe just the soup?
no subject
“If you wish to go to the effort of making something new,” he agreed, slinking over to the table and sitting where he could watch Duo work. “I suppose, even if I’m not ill, taking a small dose of medication wouldn’t hurt.” He didn’t even know what kind of medicine to take. He knew how to treat broken bones and severed limbs and exposure to nerve gas, but a cold? Or whatever the hell this was? Completely clueless.
no subject
He went about getting out a can of soup and got it warming in a saucepan before he turned with a glass of water and some pills in hand. Duo didn't have any medicine really. Painkillers were good for a lot of things though. Helping bring down temperatures, easing aches and pains and headaches. They helped with several different kinds of symptoms.
"Take these. We'll see how bad things are after that." Since Duo wasn't really sure what it was either. All he knew was when someone got sick, he paid attention.
no subject
He leaned over the table again, half-empty glass of water spinning slowly in his hand as he tried to focus his attention. His head was starting to ache again, in an entirely different way from the morning, and after a few minutes, he just pulled the glass close to press it to his forehead. "What kind of soup is it?" he asked, mostly to fill the silence that felt like it was clawing at him.
no subject
He'd turned back to tend to the soup so it didn't burn when Wufei called over a question again.
"Uh... tomato, if that's alright? I can hit the store again in the morning and get a better range if it's not good enough." And maybe a pharmacy to get a meds that would actually work and help Wufei.
no subject
He really was still feeling awful, and a little woozy. "Thank you," he added, quietly.
no subject
"Hey... hey Wu? Go sit in the other room. Get comfy. I'll stick the soup in a mug and bring it out." There was no point in sitting at a table on hard wooden seats if he wasn't feeling well. The sofa's might not have been the best but they were for sure more comfortable. There was even a little woollen blanket he could throw over Wufei's lap like a little old lady.
He might not have been a nurse or a doctor, or even someone as close as family, but he could at least do his best to take care of Wufei.
no subject
He set his water on the coffee table and curled himself up on the couch, only to fall into a light doze as he waited for the soup. If Duo didn't actively try to be quiet enough not to wake him, he would rouse quickly enough.
no subject
It wasn't long really. Warming up soup was something even Heero could have done without messing it up. And as promised he poured the soup into a mug before taking it through to find Wufei was asleep. Duo felt bad for it, but he called out Wufei's name and snatched up the blanket from the chair as he passed.
"Here ya go." The blanket was draped over Wufei's lap before Duo knelt down in front of the couch and offered the mug. "... Wufei, you're gonna have to tell me what you're feeling, man. I can't help if you don't talk to me."
no subject
He didn't bother telling Duo that he didn't feel like eating -- he knew he needed to, and would force down as much as he could stand. "It's probably just a flu, but I should warn the others," if he was contagious before he showed symptoms, then they'd been exposed. If they were really lucky, the only person getting exposed was Duo.
no subject
"Alright. After you've had this, back to bed. I'm gonna go back out and grab some meds. Bed rest, fluids, keeping up on the pain meds, that's all we can do and wait this out. If you stay resting no one else'll have to know." Because if Heero caught wind of this, even after Duo had promised Wufei wasn't compromised, there would be trouble. "We've a week to get you better, Wu. I know it's tough, but just... lemme handle this, yeah? Let me help."
no subject
no subject
"Don't worry about me." Duo gave a lopsided little smile. "I've been through worse. Lets just focus on you, buddy. We'll worry about me if it gets to that." Except probably not. If he caught whatever it was he'd just bully through it to carry out whatever mission he's put on. Taking more time off would be beyond humiliating.
no subject
no subject
"Even if I get it, it won't matter. But since you're not good at worrying, don't worry bout this." He gave his friend a wide grin. Duo wasn't dumb, he could tell Wufei was making himself eat. And he was proud of him. As hard as it was, food was needed to heal the body. Food, water and plenty of rest.
no subject
no subject
So he laughed brightly and leaned in to lightly nudge Wufei back. "Nah man, I'm not taking joy! Just trying to keep your spirits up, y'know? It's just the flu, it'll suck and then you'll wonder what all the fuss was about! You'll be fighting fit before you know it."
no subject
It was just a simple, run of the mill infection. Nothing to write home about. He managed to finish the soup, setting the mug aside with a sigh. "I suppose I'm relegated to a bed, then?" He was so tired he just wanted to lie down right there on the couch and be done with it, but it was certainly less comfortable than a bed.

Then he trudged up the stairs, closed himself into the bedroom and crawled into bed to pass right back out again. A deep, restful sleep despite the fever and discomfort. He slept through the entire night, waking with the dawn again. He wasn't feeling any better, as he slid out of bed and shuffled towards the door.
There was a mirror, over the dresser, and when he got a look at himself his whole body felt like it had been plunged into ice water. Little red spots, all over his face. He made his way to the door, engaged the lock, and grabbed his phone to text Duo.
You need to leave. Now.
