Duo pulled his hands out of Wufei's hair to cup his cheeks, smiled and leaned in to kiss him again. He lingered there for a moment longer before speaking against his lips.

"I'd let you. I'd really like it." And so, with a wide grin, he let go of Wufei's face and winked before he turned himself around. His hair was a bit more complicated. The mass of chestnut waves extended far down his back, all the way to his ass. Washing from the front would have been tricky for Wufei, even Duo would pull it over his shoulder to deal with it half the time.

He returned the kiss with a smile, and even returned that wide grin when Duo affirmed that he did, in fact, want Wufei handling his hair. He wasn't sure which part was more enticing, getting to touch something he'd considered forbidden, or the intimacy and trust the request implied.

Either way, he was going to treat Duo's hair with the care it deserved, and poured a generous helping of shampoo into his hand, starting to work it into the hair from the bottom up. "Is it rude to confess I've always wanted to touch it? To see it down like this?" The whole thing was going to be a mass of snarls when they got out of the shower, but that just meant he'd get to spend even longer with his hands in it, teasing out every little knot and snarl.

"It's not rude... If I'd known I woulda let you." If Wufei had come to him honest curiosity and no judgment he most definitely would have let his hair down, even let him touch it. It was a bit of a weird thing to consider but, now that he knew that Wufei had liked him, it made a bit more sense.

Duo gave a soft sigh and closed his eyes, head tipping back just a little.

"When I was a kid I had a complex about my hair. Hated people touchin it. When I was on the streets it earned me a bit of leeway, marks'd think I was a girl sometimes. Till I opened my mouth. Later I was bullied for it. First time in a school and I hated it. But... I liked my hair this way. Sister Helen wanted to cut it, but when I said no she braided it instead. Always had it braided since that day. She was the one who showed me how to look after it. She'd brush it out before bed every night I lived there." With his eyes closed and his back turned to Wufei, the words came easy. Duo didn't mean to say nearly as much as he did but the words just tumbled out.

Wufei listened as he lathered the soap into the long strands, and when Duo finished, he leaned forward to press a kiss to Duo's shoulder. "Then it seems that this type of affection must only be for your family, too," and if his voice was a little thick, well so what? He'd known Duo was an orphan, that he'd grown up in a much rougher environment than Wufei had been blessed with. He knew better than to ask after Sister Helen, knew that Duo wouldn't just leave family behind if they were still alive, but it warmed him to know that Duo had experienced a mother's love, even if it wasn't long lasting. "It seems likely she would be honored that you still wear your hair that way."

"Heh, nah she'd be too pissed at me for everything else to be bothered by that. She hated me fighting. So what do I do? Go join the war, get myself a big ass Gundam and go off to cause havoc and destruction wherever I went." But he liked to think she would have at least smiled at the way he kept her memory alive. Even just a little.

"She'd have liked you. Woulda called you a 'good influence' on me." Duo grinned. "You'd have hated me back then. I was a little shit with a chip on his shoulder. It's no wonder I got my ass kicked so much. Good thing I grew outta that." He was joking, or trying to. The memories of his childhood were generally painful and Duo was skirting around a good many of them, doing his best to keep things on the lighter side. Heavy conversations were for nights when he was drunk and feeling melancholy, not when he had a beautiful man stroking gentle fingers through his hair.

Wufei laughed softly, pressing more kisses to Duo's shoulders as he worked. "I probably would have, you sound like my wife," he teased. "She always wanted to fight, wanted to make the world a better place, and I had my head stuck in the library. I'd lost my parents rather young and decided it meant there was no meaning to life at all. Everything was the way it would be, and nothing really mattered."

He reached Duo's scalp, started massaging the shampoo in. "But we've both changed since then, and despite taking a violent path, we've managed to forge peace. We didn't keep fighting when we didn't have to anymore," if one conveniently ignored the Mariemaia incident, at least on Wufei's side of the equation. "We've earned this peace, if we can just let it in," he sighed heavily, fingers working diligently as he rested his cheek against Duo's shoulder. He grimaced, turned to press his forehead to Duo's skin instead. "I'm afraid I might never learn how."

Wufei didn't really know how to do 'light' conversation. He was either rude or extremely emotional, he didn't really have an in-between.

The kisses were nice, but they were just a small distraction from the sound of Wufei's voice over his shoulder. Duo felt an ache in his chest and wanted so much to turn around, but maybe Wufei felt the same about finding it easier to talk when you could hide away?

"I don't know if I wanted to make the world a better place... I was a ball of anger and hurt, I wanted to lash out..." But maybe he would have liked Wufei's wife, or she would have liked him? Duo hoped she would have.

When he felt Wufei lean against his shoulder, he brought a hand up to rest it upon his head and leaned his cheek to the side, pressing his own cheek against the top of Wufei's head. "I think you can, Wu. Together we can." He smiled gently. "You're stuck with me now."

"I may have said I was coming to change the world, but really I just wanted revenge on Oz and Treize for my wife's death," and when he'd finally gotten it, it had been bitter and unsatisfying.

He slid one of his hands out of Duo's hair so he could wrap the arm around his lover's hips. "Why do I get the feeling you'll force the peace down my throat whether I like it or not?" he asked, not quite able to stop himself from smiling, closing his eyes against the shampoo now oozing down his face.

"Yeah. Revenge." it's what had driven him too. What had driven him for a very long time. "... Maybe another day I'll tell you more of my story. I'm not nearly drunk enough."

Feeling the arm around him Duo finally turned back around and easily pushed Wufei back under the spray of the shower, the warm water cascading down around them as he leaned in for a kiss. Slow, passionate and full of love. Duo held him close to his chest, cradling him there. "Not peace..." He spoke between kisses. "Safety. Security. A home. Love. That's what I can offer you, Wu. I won't say we'll have peace. We're gonna fight and argue, someone'll sleep on the sofa at some point. But you'll always have a home with me."

Fuck. He was glad Duo had him under the water while he was saying that, because he was crying again. He returned the kisses, and even laughed when Duo said one of them would end up on the couch occasionally, wrapping his arms tightly around Duo. "Oh, good, Sally will finally get off my case about my living arrangements," he replied lightly, reaching up with one hand to wipe water away from his eyes so he could open them to look up at Duo again. "But even if all you could offer me was a single kiss, that would be enough," something to carry him through the darkest moments, when he felt most alone.

He'd not meant to make Wufei cry. That was the last thing he'd ever wanted to do. The sound of laughter was reassuring though and had Duo smiling in response. He brought a hand up to brush dark locks of wet hair from Wufei's face and chuckled himself.

"Anythin to get Sally off your case. But Wu... You really think I'd be satisfied with a single kiss? I won't settle for anything less than going to bed with you at night and waking up with you in the mornings. I want the whole thing. I want you. I need you with me... You will, won't you? You'll stay?"

His brows lifted at the confession. He'd known, had felt how much Duo loved him, had hoped to give Duo the same feeling, but apparently hadn't been quite as successful. "Duo," he said the name warmly, leaning up to kiss him lightly. "If my sense of propriety would allow it, I'd elope with you tonight."

It wasn't feelings that Duo was asking for confirmation on, it was whether Wufei planned on leaving at some point. Surely he had a home of his own, right? Duo was nervous of going this far so fast, but hadn't been able to help himself. Letting Wufei go seemed like it would be the worst thing he could possibly do. Though hearing Wufei say he'd elope was enough to get Duo laughing. He dropped his head down on his lovers shoulder, thick locks of chestnut hair falling over his own shoulder.

"Just staying with me's a good start." He smiled, turned his head and pressed a soft kiss to the side of Wufei's neck. "We can think bout the rest another time."

Wufei laughed, too. He couldn't help it, when Duo was so happy. It was infectious. "In that case, after I have slept in for the first time in at least a decade, I will go retrieve my things from storage," he promised, smiling warmly as he snagged the conditioner and started massaging it into Duo's hair. He'd made a mess of it and he'd never be able to untangle it without some kind of conditioner.

"I'll help." Duo offered, though it was less a question and more of a statement. He would go and help. He wanted to. They were at the start of the honeymoon phase of their relationship and being without Wufei now seemed... wrong. Being the clingy type was never Duo's style, and yet he had no plans of removing himself from Wufei's side for the next while. He would be forced to once Wufei returned to work though. Duo would begrudge that deeply. He was going to kick up a fuss. Maybe he ought to warn Wufei? Nah. That could be a surprise for later.

For now hands were back in his hair leaving Duo groaning softly. "I could really get used to this..."

"There's not much to help with," Wufei admitted, some of the laughter dying away, as he realized quite suddenly he was not going to get away with keeping his little secret. One that he was sure Duo would balk at, but... "Just my altar and a duffel bag of clothes in my storage unit. Everything else is already here."

And then he held his breath and kept massaging Duo's hair, hoping he wasn't about to get scolded too harshly.

Duo's eyes had fallen closed and remained closed even as Wufei spoke words that, for a few seconds, deeply confused him. Just why was Wufei's things in storage and just why did he have so few...?

"Wufei..." He started in a calm and even tone. "Where's the rest of your stuff?"

He let out a the breath on a sigh. "Floating in the debris field from my colony, I suspect." A bit uncalled for, maybe, but it wasn't exactly the first... discussion he'd ever had about his lack of material possessions. Or where he chose to store them.

He sighed. Eyes opened to find Wufei's. It was uncalled for. Duo'd had no intentions of making Wufei feel bad about anything. How could he? A former streetrat had no leg to stand on when it came to other people's living conditions.

His gaze shifted away for a moment. "I'm sorry. Didn't realise."

And now he felt like an ass, too. He slid his hands over Duo's back, pressed a kiss to his shoulder. "It's true that I haven't... rebuilt. Sally's always hounding me about it, so it's a bit of a sore spot," he admitted softly, and then decided to just. Come clean. "I've been living in hotels since the Mariemaia uprising, and before that I was staying with a distant branch of my family in China. I've not had the time nor the inclination to settle." But that was changing, with Duo. He had an anchor point now, a reason to call Brussels home more than any of the other places he was oft shipped off to. "That's part of why I'm having such difficulty being on desk duty while Sally's pregnant. It's not the work that's painful, its that I'm stuck in one place."

Well what was he supposed to say yo that? Did Wufei even realise he was contradicting himself? He was putting Duo in a complicated situation here where he wasn't sure if he should push or pull.

"... Then it'd be wrong for me to try and keep you here, huh?" where honeymoon phases supposed to only last a night? He'd never had one before, but even under the warm spray of the shower he was feeling decidedly cold. "I get it. Settling down, sticking in one place, it can be hard to get used to." Duo shook his head and gave a gentle smile before he pulled away from Wufei just a little. "I get it."

When he pulled away, Wufei stepped closer, slid his arms around him for a firm squeeze. "Duo," he said firmly, because he could feel the misunderstanding looming there between them this time, and he was going to drop-kick it in the throat if he had to. "I want to stay. I don't... I've not looked at myself long enough to understand what it is I've been running from but I know that whatever it is, I will be safe with you while I navigate it. I want a home, but to be quite frank the last one blew itself up in my name. I am afraid of losing anything new that I build," but you couldn't just waltz up and kill a god of death, now could you? "I'm trusting you not to die."

Duo's eyes fell closed a soft huff of a laugh left his lips when he was caught before he could pull away too far. Truthfully, he really didn't want to misunderstand. He didn't want to assume. He was being as cautious as he could be. Because he wanted to do right by Wufei. He wanted...

He wanted to just grab Wufei and beg him to stay. But couldn't quite get the words out. So he just stood there and listened... and finally wrapped his arms around Wufei and pulled him in tight.

"You think it's any better for me?" Duo asked thickly. "Near everyone I've cared about've died..." Because of me... Duo didn't say those words. He swallowed them down before they could leave his mouth. "So I'm trusting the same of you, Wu. You're not allowed to die on me. And I'll do my best to stick around too."

He relaxed when Duo hugged him, leaning in for a soft kiss. "Then we're agreed; I'll stay, and neither of us will die." He smiled softly, running his fingers down Duo's shoulders. "And lucky you, I'm stuck on a desk for the foreseeable future, where the only threat to my health and well being are Sally's mood swings -- which I never said were a real thing," he gives Duo a look, one that says he's learned that lesson the hard way, "and paper cuts."

And Heero finding out Wufei had been using him as a scapegoat, but that was a problem for Next Week Wufei. Probably. He hoped.

That got a laugh out of him. There was no need for the look, he wouldn't have wanted to incur Sally's wrath by saying anything on the subject of mood swings. Duo was starting to relax again. As Wufei's fingers ran over his shoulders it was as if they were easing the tension out of them at the same time.

"If you're staying, we should think about getting outta the shower before we use up all the hot water for the entire street." And prune up.
