03. I LOVE YOU, BUT... A bittersweet love confession. You know you love this person more than anything, but you're not sure you can give them what they need.

Wufei groaned softly, already starting to nudge Duo in that direction. "Fuck it," he replied lightly. "I'll just change my fidelity to you instead. Then I can make much more carnal vows about keeping you satisfied," he grinned. And then he showed Duo exactly how.

Duo was more than happy to be nudged and more than happy to walk backwards, leading Wufei along with him and laughing brightly. "Now there's a vow I can get behind..." He replied in that same purr, with that same smirk... and dragged Wufei the rest of the way back to their bedroom.

And maybe it was more than an hour before they actually left the house to go to Chinatown. It totally was NOT Duo's fault. He was just a demon, obeying the whims of his master, right? A master who knew just the right way to keep him satisfied. He was a much more chilled out Duo Maxwell when they finally left. But couldn't quite wipe he smile from his lips.

Wufei was, generally speaking, a high-strung kind of guy, but when they left for Chinatown he was extraordinarily mellow. And a little bit smug, leading Duo down the aisle of a Chinese department store, looking at rice cookers that seemed complicated enough to be capable of refining plutonium. He was even humming as his gaze wandered over the models.

"Well, they certainly have a nice selection," Wufei mused. They also all cost about five times the price of the rice cookers Duo would've seen in western stores.

Duo wandered down the aisle with his hand resting comfortably upon the small of Wufei's back. He had no idea what he was looking at but trusted Wufei would know what kind of rice cooker he wanted.

"Grab whatever one's the best for what we need." Duo offered with a wide grin. Because he honestly had no idea. Hadn't even had time to do a little research online. He was putting all of his trust in Wufei here.

Wufei hummed, leaning into the touch a little as he stopped, sizing up a few models before dragging a box off a shelf and tucking it into the cart. It was big and fancy, with a lid and lots of buttons and pictures of more than just rice on the side, showing how it could be used. "This should do." It was grouped with the mid-range cookers, but by far the most expensive of the bunch.

"This was the only brand we imported to the colony, and they last forever," he explained lightly, starting to lead Duo away, towards the stationary section next.

He leaned over a little to look at the box once it was in the cart and whistled softly under his breath. "Got more buttons than a Gundam." He joked. And was pricy. But Duo didn't mind that in the least. Especially if it was something that would last forever. It wasn't a waste of money then. That was called an investment. And he was pretty sure they'd give it a good workout too.

"Then it's perfect for us. You'll have to show me how to use it though." His grin softened into a warm smile and they were off again, once more with Wufei in the lead and Duo just looking around in utter fascination. He'd never actually been to stores like this. He'd passed through Chinatown once or twice, but usually only to pick up something from a take away on the way home.

"Lucky us, there's an instruction manual, and they usually have a couple recipes in it, too," Wufei replied lightly. It was absolutely an investment, even if they never did anything fancier than making plain rice in it.

Wufei kept them headed in the right general direction, but he was having a lot of fun watching where Duo's attention drifted, and telling him about anything that seemed to catch his attention. Most of it he'd never used himself, since they were still in the cooking section, but he'd seen plenty of people cooking over the years and could identify most of them. For all the rest, he just read the labels.

Duo was having a blast as well. And he was liking Wufei telling him about things. To the point he even started asking about things he already knew the answer to, but just wanted to hear it explained by Wufei. Or he wanted it to be read by him from the Chinese descriptions. He was having way too much fun. Which was weird since they were in a store and they weren't usually places of 'fun'.

It was just...he'd never been shopping like this with someone, let alone in this neck of the woods. And Duo was like a kid at Christmas. He committed everything to memory. Including the way Wufei looked, so animated and happy, explaining all the gadgets and things to him.

He had an idea or two about how much Duo actually knew, but seeing him this happy, well. What was Wufei going to do? Ruin the good mood? Maybe a few years ago, but not anymore. So he explained everything, and when Duo asked him about something he was sure they both knew about, he made up an outlandish story about what it was for, just to tease him.

Was he supposed to be quiet in a store like this? He hoped not because he wss laughing hard at Wufei. As if he couldn't have loved the man more than be already did.

And, of course, when he was done laughing, he had to check the coast was clear before he pulled Wufei into his arms and kissed him soundly.

"You're amazing." He murmured against soft lips. "I need to come shopping with you more often."

Wufei grinned while Duo laughed, practically beaming with pride at how well he'd done with the silly story. "So then when the panda craps the seeds out, and they grow a tree from it. Because of an enzyme the panda introduces, it gets this weird marbling effect in the wood," he held up an incense holder that was clearly made from resin dyed different shades of brown.

He grinned, setting it aside when Duo pulled him in, returning the kiss with a happy hum. "Oh, am I? I somehow doubt you'll find it interesting when I get overwhelmed by the grocery store."

"Who else could make me wanna buy an incense burner?" Duo laughed before leaning in for one more kiss, then he let Wufei go. Not because he wanted to, but because he heard the sound of steps coming their way. And as he looked, an old couple had just rounded the corner to enter their aisle. Perfect timing.

"What do you mean you get overwhelmed with groceries?" Duo questioned, getting them moving once again. "You're gonna have to explain that one, Wu. That's got a story behind it and I wanna know the deets."

Wufei laughed in reply, returning that last kiss and grinning, totally ignoring the old couple. They could be as annoyed by it as they liked, he didn't give a damn.

"Well, I've been living on take-out since I got recruited. Sally gave me a recipe for something and I tried to go get everything to make it, but the problem is she gave me a mix of Chinese and English names for the ingredients and I went to a Thai grocery store. None of the names matched up, and I spent two hours in the produce section without picking anything up." He might have alarmed some of the workers while he was at it.

Duo listened and soon he was laughing, just imaging Wufei standing and staring accusingly at a bunch of fruit and vegetables, soon turning to panic as he realised he had no idea what was what.

"You are so damn cute." Duo grinned. "You still got that recipe? Maybe we could try it out sometime? Think it's about time you started eating real good and not junk food." Which was amazing for Duo to day since he kind of liked the occasional take out. But he also enjoyed cooking too. And having someone to cook for, and with, just made it more exciting for him.

He flushed at being called cute, and if anyone else had tried it, they would've ended up in traction. Duo was exceptional in many ways. "I do," he agreed with a chuckle. "And I've installed a translation app on my phone," so he would actually be able to tell what was what when confronted with actual produce. "And I don't always eat junk food. There are plenty of healthy take-out options," but he did have a bad habit of picking the stuff that was calorie-dense. The only reason he was still so think was how hard he worked all the time, burning it off almost immediately.

But Duo was right, he did need to start eating better. He wasn't running from mission to mission anymore, and he wasn't fool enough to think Duo was just going to let him go back to working himself to the bone when Sally was ready for field work again.
