Wufei hummed in agreement to the comment about the sheets. They'd made a proper mess of them, and he didn't really feel like sleeping in a damp patch of sweat all night. "That sounds perfect," he agreed, as he turned off the water and followed Duo out, taking just one towel and drying off his hair gently while his body, for the most part, air-dried. He only had to swipe his towel over a few areas when he was done with his hair, and tossed it over the curtain rail. "Any preferences on what I make?" he asked as he made his way into the bedroom, digging out his silk pajamas from his bag and pulling them on.

Duo followed Wufei into the bedroom and dropped onto the end of the bed. He had his hair over one shoulder and rubbing it dry with the towel. It was the worst part of washing his hair. It took forever to dry. And blow drying it took an age as well so he was generally doomed when it came to washing his hair before bed. It was something he'd normally avoid.

"A quick sandwich or something?" He suggested. A sandwich was filling enough and light on the stomach that it wouldn't mess with their ability to sleep.

"As you wish," Wufei agreed lightly, buttoning up his pajamas as he padded out of the room to fix them both a light dinner. He returned about ten minutes later with two sandwiches, some potato chips, and a beer for each of them. "What are your feelings on eating in bed?" he asked lightly.

It was important to note that his idea of what constituted a sandwich was perhaps not what Duo was expecting. There was bread, there was meat (plucked off the remains of a rotisserie chicken in Duo's fridge), there was a little mayo. But there were also orange segments and cracked black pepper, possibly a rogue olive, something green that probably wasn't actually lettuce. It really looked like he just opened the fridge and put things at random between two slices of bread.

In that ten minutes Duo had managed to get the bed changed and a pair of pj pants on. He usually went without a top because it made him feel like he was being strangled if he turned to much in the night and it bunched up. As for his hair, he'd dried it as well as he could and rebraided it loosely. It would need to be washed again in the morning but it was fine.

He was sat cross legged on the end of the bed tying the end of his braid when Wufei came back. "Eating in bed is fine with me." He spoke cheerfully, a grin forming until he caught sight of the sandwich and raised a questioning brow at Wufei. "Uh... Just whatcha got there Wu?"

Wufei set their beers -- caps still firmly in place -- on the bed and offered Duo one of the plates. "Thanksgiving Sandwiches," he replied, as if it were obvious, and crawled onto the bed next to him, as if this were the most normal and tame thing to serve someone.

He picked his own up and took a big bite. The way his face changed with every chew was... magical.

Duo just watched with a look of barely contained amusement.

Acter scooting up the bed and grabbing one of the beers, he had to ask. "How's the sandwich?" even as he made a grab for some of the chips.

"An abomination," he mumbled around his bite, but forced himself to swallow it anyway. "They always sounded delicious when Sally talked about them," he grumbled, holding his up to eye it critically. "And she wasn't pregnant at the time," before Duo could ask.

He sighed heavily. "Well. I suppose I should make you something more edible. I can eat them so it won't go to waste," since it was his mistake, anyway.

Duo just rolled his eyes and pulled the sandwich his way. Removing the top later he took everything but the chicken off of it, then shoved a handful of the chips on instead. With a grin he put the other slice of bread back on and smooshed it down with a satisfying crunch.

"Everyone has their own taste, Wu. But this is fine!" and then Duo lifted the remade sandwich up to his lips and took a big crunchy bite.

Wufei watched him, mouth hanging open as he'd been about to take another bite, watching Duo smoosh the chips onto his chicken and press it into a sandwich. He was pretty sure that still counted as an abomination, but shrugged and took another bite of his own. "That's one way to look at it," he agreed after he'd swallowed. The second bite hadn't been so bad, without any olives ruining things. So he opened his own, too, and scraped the little nuggets of anger out of his sandwich before going back in for another bite.

"You should do the same. It's actually pretty good!" Duo gave Wufei's sandwich a suspicious look. "That can't taste good..." And there was absolutely no way Wufei could be pregnant, no matter how hard they could try, there was no way it would happen. So maybe Wufei just had weird taste buds? Duo was learning so many new things about this wonderful, weird man.

"The oranges are... unpleasant," he agreed, opening his sandwich a second time to scrape more out, and, yes, he put the chips in, smooshed it down.

And this time when he took a big bite, there was a hum of genuine approval. It had no right to taste that good, but it was delightful.

"Sometimes simple is best, Wu." Duo grinned, happy that he'd taken the fruit off of the sandwich.

"Can't say I've done this with chicken though. Cheese? Hell yeah. But just a straight sandwich with chips on? Reminds me of being a kid."

"I suppose it comes as no surprise that I live on take out," he chuckled between bites, pleased that his 'sandwich' had turned out to be edible with only a few modifications. It was progress, probably. It hadn't come out of a box, at least.

"Get used to cooking then." Duo laughed as he uncapped his beer and took a swig. "I kinda like to cook." Not that a chip sandwich was high dining, but he'd learned to cook for himself and wasting money on take out just seemed dumb to him. Not that he was going to come out and say that to Wufei!

"Maybe I can learn some dishes you like? Do you have a favourite? Any comfort food I should know about?" Duo had shuffled some more so that now he had his back to the headboard and his legs stretched out over the bed. He was as comfortable as he could be.

"I'll have to take lessons," Wufei decided lightly, finally opening his beer and taking a swig. "My favorite comfort food is congee, and it's one of the few things I do know how to make for myself, but we'll have to get a rice cooker first," not him, but the both of them. Together.

The thought settled through him, warm and pleasant, and there he went blushing again.

"Ahh a rice cooker, huh? Guess we could get one of those." He chewed thoughtfully for a moment, thinking it over. He'd considered getting one when he was fixing up his kitchen but realised he didn't eat enough rice to justify it. But if it was something Wufei wanted... He could learn to make congee.

"Yeah, we should get one." Duo grinned. "First we need to get you settled in." He looked around his room, took a drink of his beer and then finally returned his gaze to Wufei. "I've a spare room... Would you want me to set that up as a space for you or..." He smiled. "Can I assume when you said you wanted to stay you meant every night too?"

Wufei nodded, alternating beer and sandwich. "I'll get it tomorrow," he offered. "I can get a fancy one, that you can make all the trendy foods they show in the social media videos," he suggested lightly. "Like inch-thick pancakes, and simmered tripe, and..." he filled his mouth with another bite, forcibly stopping himself from telling Duo about any of the other weird foods he'd seen on the internet.

"If you want me out of your bedroom, you're going to have to kick me out," he added. "Though somewhere that I can practice my forms without having to interrupt you would probably be a good idea," otherwise he was going to be moving the living room furniture at least twice a day.

Duo stared for a long moment before he just started laughing. Pancakes and tripe? What the hell was wrong with his boyfriend? He was lucky he was so cute.

"Get the thing. Skip the tripe. I'll give most things a go, Wu, but I'm gonna put my foot down on that one!" he'd rather starve! Then Duo grinned. No, he had no plans on kicking Wufei out. He wanted to keep him right where he was. "Not sure the rooms big enough... We'll look it over tomorrow and clear it out if you think you can make use of it."

He laughed in reply. "Okay," he agreed. "I thought you might try the pancakes, they look fluffy," but he was well aware that tripe wasn't everyone's cup of tea. He'd only eaten it when it was rude to refuse, anyway.

He finished off his sandwich and popped a chip into his mouth. "Okay, that sounds good. I can modify them for smaller spaces on my days off, and do them at work the rest of the time. It's what I was doing before, anyway," but he had the impression that Duo might like to watch, and while he normally found such curiosity rude, he would gladly make an exception for his boyfriend.

"Pancake we can do." Pancakes he liked. Tripe he did not.

And yes he would love to watch Wufei, if he was willing and oh wouldn't be invading his privacy. Duo's place wasn't that big, it had just been him after all. He'd not needed much. Part of him wondered if maybe he should think about getting a bigger place... For now it would do. They'd work it out.

"If there's anythin else I can do to make this place a home for you, tell me." His smile had softened and warmed. "This is your home now."

Blush bloomed on his cheeks again as he sipped at his beer and picked at what was left of his chips. "Well, if you're in it, it'll feel like home," feel safe, and comforting. And if he was really lucky, it would help with all those nightmares he kept having. "I'm kind of figuring out what home is as I go. I don't remember much of early childhood, and everything after that was boarding school, then Nataku's home once I was married to her," and then he'd been fighting in wars and living in hotel rooms or borrowed spaces. 'Home' was going to take some figuring out.

But if Heero and Duo could do it, so could Wufei.

"... You're cute when you blush." Duo hadn't wanted to mention it, was afraid if he did Wufei would make an effort to stop, but it just had to be said. He smiled over at Wufei, warm and affectionate, and so damn happy.

"I get it though. Took a while for me to adjust to static living, but it's not that bad once you do. It wasn't what I'd imagined for myself but things change." He took a bite of his sandwich and chewed thoughtfully. "... When I was a kid livin on the streets, I'd wished for a home. A family. Got that kicked outta me quick. But a little part of me always wanted a home. Just never thought I'd get the chance." Duo grinned. "Sometimes dreams come true."

And that just made the blush darken, a nervous little laugh working its way out of him. "Oh, am I? You're lucky I like you so much, I don't let anyone call me cute." Congratulations on being exceptional in one more way, Duo. It helped that the smile was doing strange things to Wufei's chest, and making him smile, too.

Wufei nodded in agreement, plucking up another chip and eating it. "A couple years ago, Heero invited me to stay with him for a few months, but I didn't even make it a full day. He kept the place wired to blow. I had a... well. A panic attack in the middle of the first night, waking up from a nightmare. I haven't been back to his house since," but it was, in his mind, a fairly reasonable reaction. They were all fucked up in their own unique and terrible ways, it was no surprise that he'd developed something of a complex where explosives were concerned. "I'd thought it was my last chance at something in the general vicinity of normal," and then Duo had gone and proven him wrong.

"How bout pretty?" Duo asked, smile slowly widening as he leaned closer, inch by inch. "Beautiful? Drop dead gorgeous? The most handsome guy I've ever met?" Once he was close enough... he kissed Wufei's cheek, warm lips against a warm, flushed cheek. And then he pulled back with a laugh.

"That was your first mistake. Roomin with Heero, bad idea. I shared a room with him a few times back in the day, the guy's a menace to society." Now he was settled back against the headboard and his pillows, Duo finished off his beer and set the empty bottle aside. "Don't get me wrong, Wufei. I don't know if I can give you normal, I don't know what that is. Sometimes I've bad dreams too. Sometimes the day's just bad. But I think we can work it out together. And make somethin that's normal for us."

Wufei laughed as Duo inched closer, shaking his head after the kiss, his whole face going crimson, but he didn't try to refute the compliments. "You are very, very lucky," he said, feigning grumpiness.

He laughed at Duo's critique of his choice to stay with Heero, nodding in agreement. "He really is, isn't he?" he watched Duo as he finished off his own chips and beer, setting the plate and glass aside, brushing a few crumbs off the bed and onto the floor to be swept up later. He draped himself across the bed with a long sigh, closing his eyes and running a hand through his hair. "Well, normal or not, you're giving me a place to feel safe, and that's probably more important, anyway."
