Wufei snorted softly. "Is this the virginity pool or the sanity pool, because I've won both," he replied, just as dryly. "You know my account number, and send it soon I'll need it for the rice cooker I'm buying us today," and took another bite of pizza.

He picked his phone up again, glanced through the messages that were all variations of 'congratulations' or 'do you have a concussion?' "If you don't believe me, just talk to Quatre, apparently his Space Heart can sense even the more carnal emotions."

"I'm aware." There was the sound of creaking leather and then something akin to a sigh. "He'd very apologetic for intruding on your moment. In his defence, you have been neglecting yourself, Wufei." While his tone was mild there was just a hint of scolding, but also of a smile. "I'm happy to hear it was nothing too serious."

Duo, on the other hand, was a little concerned that there was actually a pool on him that the guys had been betting against him. Had he known... He'd have gotten laid ages ago. Or lost his mind. Just to ruin their fun.

"So you guys can back off now, yeah?" Duo asked.

"Backing off." Trowa confirmed with a quiet chuckle. "Seems the crisis averted itself."

Wufei winced at Trowa's reply, letting out a sigh of his own. "That's true enough, I suppose, but I'm... working on it now, alright?"

He sighed again when Trowa agreed to back off. "And for the record, virginity pool on me can cash out to anyone who had 195, and that's as much as I'm willing to say on the matter."

There was an odd little silence on the other end of the phone and when Trowa finally answered, it was with a tone of deliberate nonchalance. "Noted." He'd been joking about the 'pool' to tease Duo. There wasn't a pool and most definitely no virginity pool.

Duo looked from Wufei to the phone and then back again. "Uh... Well!" Forced cheerfulness and a big grin, time to change the tone. "So what do you guys think about meeting up sometime in the near future? Been a while since we all got together right?"

"I'm sure that can be arranged. Any particular time?"

"... No idea." Duo looked to Wufei. "A week or two, maybe?"

Problem was, Heero had made several predictions that sounded a whole lot like betting pools to Wufei, so he was absolutely serious. He just didn't know how big the supposed pools were, or how his own predictions had gotten added. More to blame on Heero, no doubt.

Wufei shrugged. "Heero's attempting to kick my ass on Monday, so any time after that would work for me. I'm ground-bounded for the next year or so."

"Then the weekend after. Quatre and I'll come down on the friday. How does that sound?" Trowa offered after a brief silence and the sound of muffled talking. He'd clearly covered the phone with his hand to talk to someone, probably Quatre.

"He's really gonna do that?" Duo sighed and rolled his eyes, wondering if he maybe organise a little 'accident' that would trip Heero up and stop him. "But next weekend sounds good enough, Tro!"

"That sounds lovely," Wufei replied. "And yes, he is. We make a point of sparring whenever we're in the same place at the same time. It helps keep both of us sharp," and if he was being honest, it was just nice to have someone he didn't have to hold back on.

Much. They would break bones if they didn't hold back a little.

Duo just gave Wufei a funny look at that, before he promised Trowa he'd call him later, or see him next weekend, wished him a goodbye and then hung up with a laugh. When he hung up he realised he had a few more texts and a missed called from Howard.

"We really poked the ants nest didn't we?" He looked very amused as he started to reply to a few texts, confirming it was all true. He was a taken man. Off the market. Sorry, ladies!

He lifted a brow at the funny look, but let him handle hanging up with Trowa and checked his own phone again with a sigh. "We have indeed," and sent out a few texts of his own, even though he would normally refuse to give follow-up answers.

Which only lead to several confused texts assuming Duo was pranking them all, except that Trowa was confirming for them that it was real... but he was a literal clown, and that just muddied the waters farther.

"Oh for crying out loud," Wufei groaned, twenty minutes later. "If I'd known it would be this much trouble..."

Duo was having grand ol' time laughing it up. But in the end he realised it was probably getting a bit much, so muted his phone and climbed to his feet to pluck Wufei's phone from his hands, muted his as well and tossed it onto the table with his own.

"Then we ignore them. We've said what we wanna, if they believe us, great. If they think I'd joke about somethin like this, shows how much they know me." Duo said it with a warm smile even as he pulled Wufei to his feet and right into his arms. "Don't care what anyone else says or what they believe. You're mine now and that's all that matters to me."

Wufei sighed heavily, but didn't argue when Duo took his phone and turned it off, letting himself sink into Duo's arms with a quiet sound of appreciation. "I think I'm more offended that they think I'm so..." he couldn't think of a word that wouldn't piss Duo off, so he erred on the side of letting him fill in the blank for himself.

"So...?" He could try and fill in the gaps but he couldn't guarantee he'd come up with the right thing. But it didn't really matter. He had Wufei in his arms now so he leaned in to press a soft, warm kiss to his lips to soothe those offended nerves.

"I don't care what they think, y'know that?" He smiled, talking between soft kisses. "Never did."

He returned the kiss, and even managed to give Duo a little smile. "I know you don't," he sighed softly. "But I'm afraid despite my surly disposition, I care a great deal. At least when it comes to those people I've chosen as my friends, but it seems I've done a rather bad job of cultivating those friendships," he gave Duo a little squeeze, let himself linger in the warmth and the comfort of his lover's arms. "Perhaps this is the worst idea I've ever had," and he'd had some doozies over the years, "but maybe we should invite them all for dinner. Show them, since telling doesn't seem to work all that well."

"Hey... Think it's more a reflection on me than you." Duo pointed out gently. "Half of them think it's a prank I'm pulling. But... if you feel like that, I can call Trowa later, see if he can get Quatre down here sooner. We can set something up." His arms tightened around Wufei and he wished so much that this had been a bit more of a happier moment for him. If he had the chance he'd rip their friends all new ones for making Wufei doubt himself.

Wufei hummed softly. "Well, you've always been quick to tease, and I've never been... affectionate." It wasn't an unreasonable assumption, based on both their personalities. "I suppose I'm coming to regret the façade I put so much effort into projecting, but I was hurting so deeply..." he was too afraid to let any of them closer, because he believed they were all fighting a losing fight, that they would all be dead by the time the war was over.

And the war had shredded him, anyway. Left him broken and vulnerable for Dekim to use as he saw fit. Guilt and anger and grief and... he sighed heavily, tucking his face into Duo's neck and squeezing him gently. "I'd warn you about how profoundly fucked up I am, but you already know."

Duo's arms tightened, cradling him to his chest. One hand lifted to gently cup the back of Wufei's head, fingers lightly burying within his hair.

"And somehow I'd always liked you, even if you weren't as affectionate as some." He smiled softly and turned his own head to press a kiss to Wufei's temple. "You were strong and noble, and fun to tease. And sometimes you'd smile. And when you did, damn but that smile could energise me." His eyes closed then. "I know you were hurtin, Wu. We all were. And I know you're fucked up, but so am I. I figure we can help each other out here. Screw what anyone else says. We deserve to be happy. We've lost so damn much, I'm not ever lettin yoi go now."

He couldn't help smiling at that, giving Duo a gentle squeeze as he huffed out a chuckle. "I did smile sometimes, and always in spite of myself," he replied warmly, kissing Duo's neck gently and relaxing against him. "This is the stuff they can't see, right here," he sighed happily.

The way they could prop each other up, stop spirals right when they were starting. The warmth, the gentle touches, the perfect moments that they could find under all the tangled up pain and trauma. "You always have just the right words, when I'm smart enough to listen." And now he felt like a sappy idiot.

"Call me selfish but I don't want them to." He wanted this all to himself. He wanted those soft smile, the laughter and the tenderness all to himself. But he knew that wouldn't be fair to Wufei. It would be akin to going into hiding all over again. Pretending to be someone he wasn't. And that was the very last thing Duo would ever want for him.

"Heh, can I get that in writing?" He sighed softly, the kisses to his neck making him smile. "I'm just saying the truth. It's the advantage of being a couple. We're in this together."

He huffed out another laugh, giving Duo a gentle squeeze. "I'll make it into a fancy calligraphy scroll for you," he offered lightly. "Then you can have it in writing and keep it a secret, at least from anyone who can't read Chinese," so everyone but Heero and Sally, probably. "We'll be in Chinatown, I'll pick up everything I need there."

"Was only joking, babe. No need to actually do that... But... Can we get that stuff anyway?" just like that, hearing that Wufei could do that calligraphy stuff, Duo really wanted to see it for himself. But he didn't have anything that he would get Wufei to write for him. So maybe he should just let Wufei write down anything... Even just his name.

"I know," he replied lightly, chuckling at Duo's question and nodding his head. "Of course we can. I should get back into the practice, anyway," he replied lightly. "It's a very relaxing art form. We can get a couple practice boards, too, so I don't waste a bunch of paper."

"Would you teach me...? Could you teach me?" Duo didn't think he could actually learn how to write in Chinese, but maybe he could learn to at least write his own name or Wufei's?

He blinked at that, but smiled warmly and bobbed his head in a nod. "Of course. We'll have to give you a Chinese name to sign your work with," and that alone would be plenty interesting, he was sure. "It's an art form that looks deceptively messy and disorganized, but..." it was beautiful and precise. Like explosions.

He slowly let out a breath he hadn't even known he was holding, the grin he gave Wufei then was wide enough to make his cheeks ache. "Seriously? A Chinese name? I... suppose that makes sense. Guess my name doesn't translate well, huh?" Technically it wasn't even his name. Duo had no idea what his birth name was, didn't remember it at all. So getting a new name, even if it was just to sign his work, was kind of exciting.

"Doesn't matter." He shook his head, still smiling. "I like chaos."

"Not directly, no, but your names have meaning, and we can choose a Chinese name that has similar meaning," though they wouldn't be quite the same.

And when Duo said he liked chaos, Wufei grinned back. "That's exactly why I think you'll enjoy it. You've the right disposition for it, even though most people think of it as the realm of monks, sitting in silence and steadfastly practicing their strokes."
