Duo's arms tightened, cradling him to his chest. One hand lifted to gently cup the back of Wufei's head, fingers lightly burying within his hair.

"And somehow I'd always liked you, even if you weren't as affectionate as some." He smiled softly and turned his own head to press a kiss to Wufei's temple. "You were strong and noble, and fun to tease. And sometimes you'd smile. And when you did, damn but that smile could energise me." His eyes closed then. "I know you were hurtin, Wu. We all were. And I know you're fucked up, but so am I. I figure we can help each other out here. Screw what anyone else says. We deserve to be happy. We've lost so damn much, I'm not ever lettin yoi go now."

He couldn't help smiling at that, giving Duo a gentle squeeze as he huffed out a chuckle. "I did smile sometimes, and always in spite of myself," he replied warmly, kissing Duo's neck gently and relaxing against him. "This is the stuff they can't see, right here," he sighed happily.

The way they could prop each other up, stop spirals right when they were starting. The warmth, the gentle touches, the perfect moments that they could find under all the tangled up pain and trauma. "You always have just the right words, when I'm smart enough to listen." And now he felt like a sappy idiot.

"Call me selfish but I don't want them to." He wanted this all to himself. He wanted those soft smile, the laughter and the tenderness all to himself. But he knew that wouldn't be fair to Wufei. It would be akin to going into hiding all over again. Pretending to be someone he wasn't. And that was the very last thing Duo would ever want for him.

"Heh, can I get that in writing?" He sighed softly, the kisses to his neck making him smile. "I'm just saying the truth. It's the advantage of being a couple. We're in this together."

He huffed out another laugh, giving Duo a gentle squeeze. "I'll make it into a fancy calligraphy scroll for you," he offered lightly. "Then you can have it in writing and keep it a secret, at least from anyone who can't read Chinese," so everyone but Heero and Sally, probably. "We'll be in Chinatown, I'll pick up everything I need there."

"Was only joking, babe. No need to actually do that... But... Can we get that stuff anyway?" just like that, hearing that Wufei could do that calligraphy stuff, Duo really wanted to see it for himself. But he didn't have anything that he would get Wufei to write for him. So maybe he should just let Wufei write down anything... Even just his name.

"I know," he replied lightly, chuckling at Duo's question and nodding his head. "Of course we can. I should get back into the practice, anyway," he replied lightly. "It's a very relaxing art form. We can get a couple practice boards, too, so I don't waste a bunch of paper."

"Would you teach me...? Could you teach me?" Duo didn't think he could actually learn how to write in Chinese, but maybe he could learn to at least write his own name or Wufei's?

He blinked at that, but smiled warmly and bobbed his head in a nod. "Of course. We'll have to give you a Chinese name to sign your work with," and that alone would be plenty interesting, he was sure. "It's an art form that looks deceptively messy and disorganized, but..." it was beautiful and precise. Like explosions.

He slowly let out a breath he hadn't even known he was holding, the grin he gave Wufei then was wide enough to make his cheeks ache. "Seriously? A Chinese name? I... suppose that makes sense. Guess my name doesn't translate well, huh?" Technically it wasn't even his name. Duo had no idea what his birth name was, didn't remember it at all. So getting a new name, even if it was just to sign his work, was kind of exciting.

"Doesn't matter." He shook his head, still smiling. "I like chaos."

"Not directly, no, but your names have meaning, and we can choose a Chinese name that has similar meaning," though they wouldn't be quite the same.

And when Duo said he liked chaos, Wufei grinned back. "That's exactly why I think you'll enjoy it. You've the right disposition for it, even though most people think of it as the realm of monks, sitting in silence and steadfastly practicing their strokes."

"Huh... Yeah, I'd like to do that." It was interesting and he really kind of wanted to know what his name would be like in chinese. And, of course, to learn how to write it.

Duo's grin widened all the more now. "So you're sayin it's not a bunch of monks... practicing their strokes? That's kinda disappointing." He tightened his hold on Wufei just a little, pulling him closer. "I like the idea of practicing my strokes with you. If you don't mind the chaos."

It was actually visible on his face, the moment that clicked into place and he heard what he'd said. He went from perfectly normal to bright red in half a second. "I, ah. That's. You," he huffed in a way that said he wanted to be mad but couldn't quite manage it, "are a pervert."

Duo raised a brow, then the other, and then he was just downright smirking in a way that said he was quite happy with that accusation.

"Am I?" He asked with all the innocence he could muster. "I'm not the one talkin about stroking all of a sudden. Makes me wonder what you're thinking about!"

"Brushstrokes," he corrected, putting on a façade of arrogance and turning his nose up, sniffing a little. "There are rules to calligraphy. You have to make the lines, with brushstrokes in a particular order. It's very serious business. And many monks make vows of chastity, I'll have you know. I almost became one, after the war."

"Brushstrokes, eh?" Except now Duo was having thoughts and it was going to be tough to forget those thoughts when they got down to actually putting brush to paper... But he'd try and be a good boy.

"Oh yeah? I'm real glad that didn't take hold then..." He leaned in and pressed a soft kiss to the side of Wufei's neck, smirking. "A vow like that? What would they say about last night? And the devil who caused you to break your vows?"

He tried very hard to keep a serious face, especially with Duo kissing him like that, making him shiver a little. "Well, it would've been... It's not quite in line with the Western tradition of sin, but it would've been a lapse in self-control. And you are most certainly a demon," he couldn't help chuckling, the blush starting to go down his neck like it was drawn to the place Duo was kissing. "A very tempting demon."

They were supposed to go to Chinatown. They were supposed to go to Chinatown. They were definitely supposed to go to Chinatown, and not towards their bedroom.

"Aren't you lucky I'm your demon?" He purred. "That should count for something. Broken vows for a tamed demon?" It was an even trade, Duo thought.

And yes, they were supposed to go to Chinatown. And they would. But Duo had gotten a little overzealous in his desire to distract Wufei from the mistake of the mass text. Maybe a little too smug. He supposed there was no timetable they had to adhere to. If they were 20 minutes late out the door it wouldn't hurt. Or an hour... If they went this afternoon maybe they could get lunch?

Wufei groaned softly, already starting to nudge Duo in that direction. "Fuck it," he replied lightly. "I'll just change my fidelity to you instead. Then I can make much more carnal vows about keeping you satisfied," he grinned. And then he showed Duo exactly how.

Duo was more than happy to be nudged and more than happy to walk backwards, leading Wufei along with him and laughing brightly. "Now there's a vow I can get behind..." He replied in that same purr, with that same smirk... and dragged Wufei the rest of the way back to their bedroom.

And maybe it was more than an hour before they actually left the house to go to Chinatown. It totally was NOT Duo's fault. He was just a demon, obeying the whims of his master, right? A master who knew just the right way to keep him satisfied. He was a much more chilled out Duo Maxwell when they finally left. But couldn't quite wipe he smile from his lips.

Wufei was, generally speaking, a high-strung kind of guy, but when they left for Chinatown he was extraordinarily mellow. And a little bit smug, leading Duo down the aisle of a Chinese department store, looking at rice cookers that seemed complicated enough to be capable of refining plutonium. He was even humming as his gaze wandered over the models.

"Well, they certainly have a nice selection," Wufei mused. They also all cost about five times the price of the rice cookers Duo would've seen in western stores.

Duo wandered down the aisle with his hand resting comfortably upon the small of Wufei's back. He had no idea what he was looking at but trusted Wufei would know what kind of rice cooker he wanted.

"Grab whatever one's the best for what we need." Duo offered with a wide grin. Because he honestly had no idea. Hadn't even had time to do a little research online. He was putting all of his trust in Wufei here.

Wufei hummed, leaning into the touch a little as he stopped, sizing up a few models before dragging a box off a shelf and tucking it into the cart. It was big and fancy, with a lid and lots of buttons and pictures of more than just rice on the side, showing how it could be used. "This should do." It was grouped with the mid-range cookers, but by far the most expensive of the bunch.

"This was the only brand we imported to the colony, and they last forever," he explained lightly, starting to lead Duo away, towards the stationary section next.

He leaned over a little to look at the box once it was in the cart and whistled softly under his breath. "Got more buttons than a Gundam." He joked. And was pricy. But Duo didn't mind that in the least. Especially if it was something that would last forever. It wasn't a waste of money then. That was called an investment. And he was pretty sure they'd give it a good workout too.

"Then it's perfect for us. You'll have to show me how to use it though." His grin softened into a warm smile and they were off again, once more with Wufei in the lead and Duo just looking around in utter fascination. He'd never actually been to stores like this. He'd passed through Chinatown once or twice, but usually only to pick up something from a take away on the way home.

"Lucky us, there's an instruction manual, and they usually have a couple recipes in it, too," Wufei replied lightly. It was absolutely an investment, even if they never did anything fancier than making plain rice in it.

Wufei kept them headed in the right general direction, but he was having a lot of fun watching where Duo's attention drifted, and telling him about anything that seemed to catch his attention. Most of it he'd never used himself, since they were still in the cooking section, but he'd seen plenty of people cooking over the years and could identify most of them. For all the rest, he just read the labels.

Duo was having a blast as well. And he was liking Wufei telling him about things. To the point he even started asking about things he already knew the answer to, but just wanted to hear it explained by Wufei. Or he wanted it to be read by him from the Chinese descriptions. He was having way too much fun. Which was weird since they were in a store and they weren't usually places of 'fun'.

It was just...he'd never been shopping like this with someone, let alone in this neck of the woods. And Duo was like a kid at Christmas. He committed everything to memory. Including the way Wufei looked, so animated and happy, explaining all the gadgets and things to him.
