Can I come over?

He couldn't be at home right now, and he didn't think he could talk about this in public. Of course, he wouldn't beat around the bush if Yukimura was actually busy, but he felt like this was conversation best to have in person.

Of course. My door is always open, you know that.

And with that Yukimura got up, phone in hand, and took himself off to the kitchen to put the kettle on. If Sanada was coming then tea was the best thing to offer company.

There were no more texts from Sanada as he briskly headed to Yukimura's place. It took him no time at all to end up at Yukimura's, and while he knew he probably didn't need to knock, he did. He cursed himself for the shakiness in his hands.

Yukimura was just setting out the tray with teapot and delicate china cups when he heard a knock at the door. There was a moments pause, almost as if he was waiting for the person who had knocked to enter. But when they didn't, Yukimura rose to answer it himself.

There was a slight frown when he opened the door. "Genichirou." There was a hint of scolding in his tone, even though he smiled. "I did say the door was open. Come on inside, it's far too cold to be standing outside for long."

"Sorry, Seiichi..." Sanada mumbled, walking inside. He noticed the set up and looked at his friend. "You didn't need to go through all this trouble..." He took off his shoes and went to sit down. "Sorry for being abrupt..."

"When is it ever a trouble?" He asked mildly after having closed the front door and followed Sanada inside. Yukimura was all smiles as he sat himself down and busied himself pouring them each a cup of tea.

"You've extended your limit on apologies. No more now. Have a drink, relax, and then consider telling me what all this is about." Yukimura's smile softened as he set a cup before Sanada and took his own into his hands. A delicate breath to cool the hot water and then he took a sip. Perfect.

Sanada looked down at the cup in his hands, looking at the liquid vibrate due to his hands shaking. He took a drink before hastily setting it down.

"My career in athletics is over." He stated bluntly.

Yukimura took that in. Breathed and had a second sip of his tea before he, too, set the cup back upon the table.

"Explain, Genichirou. In this case context is very much vital." Because he really needed to know the level of panic he needed to be feeling. His reaction, and actions, would rest on Sanada's next words.

Sanada had never felt like this before. The shaking wouldn't stop. "The doctor says my knee is a mess... I thought maybe it was mild. It's not mild, Seiichi...and it's not just my knee." His mind was a mess and his body was a mess of tremors. "My body can't support tennis or kendo anymore."

And there was the context.

Yukimura nodded before he rose to his feet and stepped around the table to Sanada's side. With the gentlest of touches, he reached for him. He pulled Sanada against himself, head resting against his stomach, and then he leaned over him just enough. Both arms wrapped about the larger man, holding him, doing his best to cover him.

"Then we find another doctor. We find a solution. Or together we work through this. You aren't alone, Genichirou. I'm here for you, just like you were here for me all of those times." And that was all there was to it. Either they got a second opinion and found a way to fix Sanada, or they would learn how to handle this new path they found themselves on. Whatever happened, they would do it together.

Sanada almost pulled away. He didn't want Seiichi to feel how much he was shaking...but once Yukimura's arms were around him, he couldn't help but hold on.

"There's no fixing it." Sanada whispered. "Even if I got a second opinion, the X-rays would look the same..."

"Then we'll deal with this." Yukimura curled a little more, almost doubled over, almost as if he could shield Sanada from the dangerous world that had hurt him so badly. His eyes closed, arms wrapping more securely around him.

Sanada pressed his face against Yukimura, willing the stinging in his eyes to go away. "How? How can we? What am I supposed to do?" Every path he had set for himself was reliant on a working body. Tennis, kendo, police work...he couldn't do any of them now.

"I wish I had an answer for you," Yukimura sighed. "But you know I can't answer that so soon. Not when things are so raw." Once Sanada had come to terms with everything then they could sit down and have a serious discussion on his opinions. It would also give Yukimura a chance to do his own research and talk to his own doctors...

"But there is a way and we'll find it. Right now, however, you don't have to think about any of that." Yukimura was quiet for a moment, thinking his next words over carefully before he spoke them. "You'll stay here tonight, won't you?"

It was foolish to expect Yukimura to have all the answers. Still...Sanada put all of his faith in his oldest friend. Everything was still painful, his stomach still sick with the fear of what the future held.

Yukimura's question stopped his thinking for a moment. "Stay here...?" He asked softly.

"Stay here." Yukimura confirmed. "You need someone, Genichirou. Even if it's just for company. Being alone right now is out of the question."

He leaned back then, arms moving until he was able to cup his friends face between his hands and he could smile for him. "So stay with me? Let me take care of you. If just for tonight."

Sanada had no choice but to look at Seiichi and that smile that made his already aching heart heart even more. He was not even aware that there were tears streaming down his usually stoic face.

"Seiichi..." Lost for words, Sanada just gave a small nod. He didn't want to be alone. Not now.

"Good." He looked relieved, somehow having expected to fight Sanada over this. It pleased him when he didn't have to.

But those tears hurt to see.

He would never judge. Yukimura understood his hurt and would never begrudge him expressing his emotions. All he could do was very softly use his thumbs to wipe away the tears.

Once Sanada realized it was tears Yukimura was wiping away, he was mortified and ashamed. He never cried. He was Sanada Genichirou. When was the last time he had cried?

"I'm sorry..." He muttered. "I shouldn't be..." His throat closed, his tongue feeling thick with emotion and embarrassment.

Yukimura moved a hand, a finger came to rest upon Sanada's lips as the corners of his own curved up almost into a grin. "What did I say earlier? You have exceeded your limit. I won't hear another apology from you."

"And you should. You are grieving. If there is ever a time to shed a tear it is when you have suffered a loss." And Sanada was losing so much right now. Yukimura wouldn't have blamed him if he had broken down sobbing or had rampaged through his house in a rage. But apologising? No. That was something he would not accept.

What had Sanada done to deserve Yukimura? He wish he knew so he could keep doing it.

His friend's words were enough to cause a new rush of tears, but he didn't sob. He didn't have the energy. Not after the rampage he had already done at home.

"I thought I had taken care of myself...why did this happen...?" He knew there was no answer, but he couldn't help but ask it all the same.

Yukimura hadn't exceeded his own quota. So quietly he answered. "I am so sorry, Genichirou. You didn't deserve this. Bad things happen to good people, and if I discover which deity cursed you with this I will end them myself." He spoke with so much conviction that someone could be fooled into believing Yukimura actually had the power to slay a god. He didn't. But his feelings were no less heartfelt.

Sanada didn't think he was a good person. Not really. Perhaps this was divine judgment for the way he treated people back in school. All the same, he was grateful for Yukimura's words. He was still looking up at his friend, hands loosely holding in to Yukimura's legs.

"How do I make it stop hurting?"

"Time." Yukimura spoke softly, delicately he brushed his fingers across Sanada's cheek, wiping away more of those painful tears. If he could take the hurt unto himself he would. In a heartbeat. Did he say as much? No. Sanada would only get angry.

"And me." Once more he bent forward, this time it wasn't to shield Sanada from the world, but to press a warm kiss to the place his thumb had just been. The cheek that was still damp and salty from tears.

Sanada's heart skipped a beat when Seiichi kissed him. It was such a chaste, gentle action, but it meant so much. Seiichi was always the stronger of the two of them, despite outward appearances.

He didn't know what to ask of Seiichi...but somehow, it felt as though he could ask anything and he would receive it. That Seiichi still wanted him was a miracle.
