It's a bit of Japanese folklore that true lovers are connected to each other via a red string that represents destiny. But what comes first, the love or the string? What if they came at the same time? This meme is one part love at first sight and one part soulmate meme. You'll find yourself connected to something by a red string tied around your pinkie that you just can't get off. Well, may as well see what- or who- is on the other end! When you do see who it is, no matter who it may be, you'll fill a sudden and intense rush of love for them - whatever love means to you. You'll want to kiss them, hold them, protect them, and be with them forever. Who cares if you've never met before or aren't even from the same world? But every rose has its thorns. Puberty blockers had strange effects. Wufei had been on them from the moment he was chosen to pilot Shenlong after his wife's death, and had continued on them for longer than he should have, after the war. It was only when he joined preventers and asked Sally to refill them that he was browbeaten into giving it up and letting his body grow and change the way it was meant to.

It was the only explanation he could think of for why his red string had taken so damn long to show up -- aside from Nataku having been his soulmate. Something he had hoped for, that every couple in an arranged marriage hoped. But apparently not, they'd just not gotten their strings yet. So there he was, nearly seventeen when his own finally appeared, and if its angle up towards the sky was any indication... whoever he was meant for was a spacer of some sort, travelling between colonies fairly often, according to his calculations.

So, a few days after the string appeared, he called Duo up on an audio-only call. "Maxwell, do you know anyone looking for an extra crewman?" Always one for small talk, wasn't he?

[Also for convenience sake, gonna assume the string is just 4-6 inches long, pointing towards the other person, and the rest is just invisible because otherwise I could see a LOT of logistical problems for all kinds of people lol.]
