5 (chest always glows in their presence) - 5(he always thought it was Cloud that made it glow oops)
Until he is.
He seemingly takes his form from nothing, like shadows gathering together. Does he actually have any substance to him right now? Who can say? Yet he is there all the same. Behind her. Watching her. A smile on his lips. He's ready to open his mouth when he notices his chest glowing. For a moment his smile turns even more smug because Cloud is nearby. He must be for that to happen.
Except he's not.
Cloud isn't anywhere in sight.
There is only...her. ]
Aerith.
[ The way Sephiroth says her name--really, the way he says anyone's name--is somehow both hot and cold. Everything from his enunciation to his tone is twisted, disturbed. Just like him. ]
no subject
Not until her name was spoken.
From right behind her.
Aerith spun. Hair fanning with the speed of her turn. In the same movement she stumbled backwards, her stave formed within her hands and she held it diagonally across her chest. It would do very little to protect her from him, but it offered her a minute sense of comfort.]
Sephiroth... What... Why are you here?
[Her voice shook, her eyes wide. There was fear there. Guarded, uncertain fear. What did he want from her?]
no subject
That which lies behind was already written and yet...that which lies ahead does not yet exist.
[ Sephiroth's posture was relaxed despite the paradox of her presence here. It, or rather her resounding absence from the Lifestream, was what had prompted him to investigate. And now he was faced with something else: his chest continued to glow. It was all so very interesting. How he could even be here without Cloud was, well a thought he refused to entertain at the moment.
He took a step forward because he could but also to see just what she would do. ]
no subject
[He barely made sense at the best of times but now it seemed to be worse. Aerith was already so very confused about where she was or why she was there. Her last memory was...
Sephiroth stepped closer and Aerith instinctively also took a step backwards. Maintaining the same distance.]
... Don't come any closer!
no subject
Fate's lines etch deep into your very bones. Squirm or struggle yet they remain.
[ Whatever she had done to be here instead of in the Lifestream, the end result would still be the same. Fate willed it so. Therefore, Sephiroth was still, falling silent, simply studying her again after uttering this truth. ]
no subject
Aerith shook her head, eyes downcast now, trying to think but finding it so very difficult to do with a crazy and dangerous man standing in front of her.
In the end, since no answers were coming to her, Aerith was forced to do the unthinkable. She summoned up as much courage as she could and lifted her head. Her gaze met his unflinchingly and she took a step closer, despite her mind screaming for her to back away NOW!]
Stop talking in riddles for once! What do you want with me? Can't you leave me alone? Don't you have some butterflies to tear the wings off of? Why do you keep looking at me like that?
no subject
Sephiroth dipped his head and closed his eyes for a moment and a small, amused noise left him at the imagery. It was so very...appropriate. When his head came up again, there was still the same detachment to him but that aloof humor was also present in his gaze. ]
Yes, just like that. Pinned for Cloud to see.
[ As amusing as all this was though, Sephiroth still wanted answers. ]
Tell me, do you remember the feeling of cold steel piercing your flesh?
no subject
[She snapped, glaring up at him with a look that... well, he'd already lost his mind so the way she looked at him was probably normal.]
I've no idea what you're talking about. I've never had cold anything in my flesh, you pervert!
[Why was he looking at her like that and asking such weird questions of her? Maybe she just needed to stop talking and start fighting him? Fighting is what he seemed to understand more than words.]
no subject
So he just kind of titled his head at Aerith and stared at her. Sephiroth had a vague idea that this his silence might intimidate people but not the memories to back that up. Still, that was what he went with. ]
no subject
And she hated the silence.
She wanted to kick him. Actually felt her leg twitch a bit in that direction, but she stopped herself.]
What?
[She snapped, demanding answers.]
If we're done here, I'm leaving.
no subject
Precious memories, held so dear to us.
[ He reached out, slowly, leisurely, and if not stopped would take some of Aerith's hair in hand and rub it between his fingers before casually letting it drop. ]
We will never be finished.
[ The last was said without inflection but as his gaze met and locked with hers, she would find nothing human or sane in it, only a fierce and unyielding obsession. ]
no subject
But the way he was looking at her was unnerving.]
We... we never even started. You don't know me. I barely even know you. You're a.. a spectra haunting my friend! So why are you haunting me now?
[What had she done to call on this man's wrath? And why did he look at her like she was... everything?]
no subject
So he reached down with that same slow, easy manner and if not stopped would press his fingers against her body right where he'd stabbed her or another version of her. ]
The truth lies right...here. Can you sense it?
[ Sephiroth's eyes still burned where they met hers. He hadn't looked away and he had no need to blink.
That all important connection could never be severed. It would always be theirs and theirs alone and maybe that was why all of this was happening to being with... ]
no subject
What are you talking about? You've lost your mind. And I don't have time to help you look for it.
[But she wasn't running away. Why wasn't she running away? Why did she stay there and argue?]
no subject
Yes, your body remembers our connection. That which can never be severed.
[ Sephiroth stood straight once more, having satisfied his curiosity with pleasant results. ]
You will live to see everything.
[ Since she really didn't know he didn't mind telling her that he wasn't about to kill her again. She wouldn't understand the promise he'd just made, though it was for his own selfish reasons. Finally, because he was sure of what he wanted now and sure she was the one who was destined to give it to him, Sephiroth reached for her hand to place against his bare chest. She would find no heartbeat, but that was the point. He wasn't alive. Yet. But soon enough he would be with her help. His glowing chest was proof of that. ]
no subject
And then her heart near stopped.
He grabbed her hand and placed it on his chest. Why? She had no idea. But what she touched wasn't flesh. It was stone. Hard, cold, unyielding. There was no warmth from that body and no heart to tell her that the man was alive. There was no movement. No rhythm. Aerith just stared at her hand for a long moment.]
... How are you here?
[The words slipped from her lips before she could stop them.]
You should be with the Lifestream. Why...?
no subject
[ Sephiroth squeezed her hand a little. It wasn't to hurt or intimidate her but rather to get his point across now that the floodgates had opened and he had really launched into soothsaying. ]
I see now what I missed before and one day soon I will give you paradise.
no subject
[The shock was clear in her expression. How could he possibly have all the knowledge of her people? And if he did... why was he doing these bad things? It made no sense.]
We're not the same! You destroy. If you really knew me, if you understood the Cetra, you'd want to protect this world and it's people.
Paradise? [She scoffed and even dared to take a small step closer, glaring up at Sephiroth now.] With you trying to kill my friends and hurt the things I love? I don't think you know what paradise is!
no subject
He let go of her and made to cup that small, angry face with his hand. ]
There is so much you don't know, and so much you have forgotten. But don't worry. I will show you what this world should be like.
[ After all, it belonged to Sephiroth just as much as she did. Everything was his to mold and shape and he would see all in its finest form before he was finished. No matter what the cost. ]
no subject
While studying that smile, she missed when her hand was let go and her cheek cupped instead. She jerked a little, not quite pulling away, but a look of stunned disbelief took over her expression. That hand felt warm now, yet a shiver ran down her spine. What... was that feeling?]
... What have I forgotten...?
no subject
So many things.
[ But he would help her. First, by answering one question. She didn't know that, of course, and he wasn't going to say it. All part of the game. ]
Ask me.
no subject
Aerith considered her options, regarding the man before her with an uncertain expression.]
Tell me those things? All of them.
no subject
[ Sephiroth's stroked his thumb along her jaw. ]
I've already told you so many of them.
no subject
I've listened... But you're avoiding my questions.
What do you want with me, Sephiroth? Tell me?
no subject
Sephiroth leaned in until his lips were right by her ear and whispered. ]
Everything.
