It can be hard enough being ejected from your own home - imagine being plucked away from your home world! This could be because of your own doing, you were too evil or too ambitious to stay, or even due to an accident. Those temporal shifts can be a little much. Whether by design or by chaos, however, you end up in the same place...or, rather, a different place. Theoretically, this world could be very much like your own, with only a few minor changes, like a purple sky instead of a blue one or lion-demons instead of tiger-vampires. On the other hand, it could be completely different, anywhere from more technologically advanced or less so or even filled to the brim with bizarre creatures. They still use cars? What are those infernal beeping devices? Why does no one have feathers or gills? Needless to say, this could be overwhelming if you are possibly powerless and definitely alone.

But you're not alone. Someone, a native of this world, has ended up tangled into this whole affair with you, whether they want it or not. You can't turn that down. They're your only ally, your only anchor in this brand new world. Maybe, just maybe, they can show you a thing or two to help you back up on your feet. Or, best case scenario, back to your home! When you're out of the frying pan and into the fire, though, nothing is cut and dry. Everything about this world may not be so horrible - it may be fun, even - and this person you've ended up with, oh, they could be worse. In fact, you may be beginning to feel at home with them.

Remember. This is not your real home. You want to go back, don't you?

And what about the other party? Of course, you may be less than thrilled that you now are playing tour guide to what seems like a crazy person. Perhaps this was out of the kindness of your heart or you may be forced to play babysitter, but it all leads to you keeping an eye out on them. They have to be lying about all this! Sure, they may talk strange, unconsciously insult you, and act like the simplest things confuse them; that has to be an act!

...still, act or not, you're starting to see that there's more to them than their goofy ways and there's more to your feelings toward them than you thought.

how to play

Comment with your character and preferences. Don't leave your comment blank! Mention something about your character's world in the comment for the canon blind (ie, "ancient Greece" or "dystopia with kids killing kids - the Japanese version"). It doesn't have to be long, it can even be a few words! If you have any other ideas, include them.
Reply to others. Use the RNG - or not. Whichever you prefer.

[ This delivered without inflection nor any change in expression. Sephiroth also remained still and simply continued to observe the stranger. He had questions, but he'd found that people usually answered them for him given enough time and silence. They had enough of both now thanks to his quick thinking. ]

Like the norse place? Wait, that's Earth. So I'm on Earth now?

[This didn't look like any place he knew of. And as for this guy?

Duo planted his hands on his hips and cocked his head to the side, staring right back at him. Observing right back. The only difference being Duo sorted a smirk.]

And who the hell're you?

[ A bunch of unfamiliar words came out of the stranger's mouth, but it was really the last thing that caught Sephiroth's attention. He might not have been the best at social interactions but he did know when people were lying to him out in the field and he could tell this wasn't one of those times.

This man had no idea who he was, which meant that he'd spent an awful long time locked away in someone's laboratory. ]

Are you Hollander's or Hojo's?

[ It was a simple question, and Sephiroth waited for the equally simple answer, ignoring all the rest. ]

[The smirk shifted to a brief look of confusion.]

I'm my own guy, thanks for askin.

Still haven't answered mine and it was your turn, buddy. So who're you? And since you skipped your turn you get a second while I'm at it. Where am I? I should have been... far away from here.

[Space. He should have been in space. Fighting. Not here, wherever here was.]

[ Sephiroth tilted his head just the slightest bit at that. While amnesia wasn't out of the question as a side effect for one who had been too long in the care of either of those two, this man was acting too bold for that.

Further, he couldn't recall anyone ever calling him "buddy" or talking to him like this. Maybe Zack? But they were both SOLDIERs, whereas this man was a stranger and most people were afraid of Masamune this close and personal no matter what they said.

A truly baffling combination, not that any of these thoughts showed on Sephiroth's face. No, it was a mask as always. ]

You're in Midgar.

[ A pause because he couldn't remember the last time he had to introduce himself and he had to think about exactly how to do it. ]

I'm Sephiroth.

You said that, but that tells me squat. I don't know Midgar!

[And when he finally got a name, Duo grinned.]

Better. I'm Duo. Duo Maxwell. And I'm gonna be honest with you, Seth, my man. I don't think I'm supposed to be here.

[Duo glanced up, then around once again. He turned full circle and lifted a hand to rub the back of his head.]

Last I know I was out near the asteroid belt takin down some Leo's and kickin ass. Now I'm here.

[ Sephiroth's confusion mounted with each word Duo said, but at least now he had a name to go along with it. ]

Duo... [ He took in the man's attire, what he was saying, and everything else. ] I think you might be right about that.

[ But what to do about it? Sephiroth still held out hope that this was all the talk of an escaped lab subject and that he'd be able to give him some valuable information. If that was true and Shinra got hold of him again, Duo would disappear for good. ]

What facility did you escape from? Do you know?

Facility? I don't escape from those, well... sometimes. [He grinned.] Usually I break in.

If you're askin where I'm from, I'm from the colonies. L2. And where I was before this, like I said, out near the belt. Y'know... [Duo lifted a hand and pointed a finger straight up.] Space? Now I'm here and either I'm dead or... this is all a coma dream and I'm in some hospital somewhere.

[ Sephiroth's thought of Wutai before Duo did something else unexpected and pointed straight up.

He followed the motion with his eyes.

Then it occurred to him that Shinra might have even more secret facilities out in places even he didn't know about. ]

One of Palmer's then?

Name doesn't ring a bell. Like I said, I'm no ones.

[Technically a lie, but not a huge one. First rule of Gundam Club was to never talk about Gundam Club. So admitting to who and what he was wouldn't do him any good right now.

Though if he really was in a strange place, or if this really was a dream (or he was dead), would it really matter? Duo supposed not if he thought about it in that way.

But he could start small, just to test the waters...]

If I say things like 'OZ' or 'Colony Liberation Organization', they mean anythin to you? What about 'Gundam'?

I'm not familiar with any of those terms.

[ Sephiroth rolled them around in his head trying to imagine what they could be. One sounded like a terrorist organization, but it was none about which he had ever been briefed. The last seemed like it could be a soldier, or perhaps a monster. Maybe something of Scarlet's design?

He shifted on his feet. ]

Is that your version of a soldier?

[Bingo.

The guy had no clue. So this was either a coma dream or... Duo dreaded to think.]

Which one? Me? I'm... kinda a soldier. In the broadest of terms. [He idly scratched at his cheek.] Those were all groups back home. If you don't know em then I'm not in Kansas anymore. I'm far away from home... That kinda sucks. How the hell do I get back?

[ Another unfamiliar term. Sephiroth didn't know what to do with that, so he just kind of stared at Duo. He was beginning to think that he would have been better off not getting involved. ]

[Duo's smile became a little uncertain the longer the guy just stared at. He looked around before stepping up closer.]

C'mon, Big Guy. Gimme something here?

[ Sephiroth decided to test the stranger. If he was going to do what he was going to do next it would be necessary. So, without warning he swung Masamune full force with every intention of stopping just a fraction of an inch from Duo's neck. After all, the man had just admitted to being a soldier and Sephiroth wasn't the kind of person to ask if someone had enhancements. Far better to see for himself. ]

[Duo had no enhancements, but he had training, he had skills, and he was quick. He saw the movement, it was just a flicker but Duo dropped and immediately rolled to the side, coming up in a crouch... but then freezing.

His hand had reached for a gun that just wasn't there. He cursed.]

Shit...

[He was supposed to die in a fiery explosion taking down his enemy. Not by some goth pretty boy with a sword fetish!]

[ Sephiroth needed only that to tell that while Duo was quick he wasn't anywhere near a threat. His posture relaxed and he dropped Masamune to his side once more. ]

I can tell you have some training but that won't save you in this place. Your safest bet is to enlist with ShinRa.

[ Right where Sephiroth could keep an eye on him. ]

Perhaps there you will find some answers.

[Duo scowled and straightened himself up slowly. That smile he'd been sporting since he'd rocked up here had vanished.]

I'm not enlisting anywhere, buddy. If you can't give me answers how about you just direct me to the guy with the brains?

Or just the exit. I'll sort this out myself.

[He was nothing if not resourceful. Somehow he'd work this mess out, even if it killed him.]

[ Sephiroth never was very good with people but perhaps because of what had happened in recent years he was making an effort. ]

You do know that you were my mission, don't you?

[ He had been sent to investigate the anomalous readings. He hadn't expected to find a person though and because they hadn't mentioned anything about it either he could afford to be a little loose in interpreting the outcome. ]

If I were to hand you over, what do you think they would do to you?

[Now he just looked confused. At the same time he'd taken a small step back.]

... You're with the Alliance?

Yeah. I don't think you'll be taking me anywhere. I'll die before that happens.

[He'd rather not. But if it came down to it, he would. Being captured and tortured again would suck balls. Duo would rather just end it right here and now.]

[ It was clear Duo was misunderstanding. ]

I'm with ShinRa. I was sent to investigate the anomalous readings. And here you are.

Shinra, Alliance, OZ, all the damn same... Always some new bullshit group to fight.

[He'd backed off another step, shifting his body and stance that would make it easier for him to bolt at the first sign that things were going south.]

But I'll say it again... I'm not joining your merry band of misfits. I just wanna know how the hell to get back home. I've missions of my own.

Relax. If I was going to turn you in I would have done so already.

[ Sephiroth's posture remained relaxed. In fact, he looked as if he didn't have a care in the world. ]

You're of little value to me as a lab rat and that's exactly where you'd end up.
